Shotguns are the best for damage for close range, and some pistol sidearms for defence if you lose your weapon somehow. I think what's most important is your stamina. You'd have to have alot of endurance while fighting and running around.

Also...for everyone, what if there are hybrid zombies? What weapon would you use then? Like say...against a 'Tank' (L4D), or Tyrant? (Resident Evil)
I'd use a shotgun, but the reload time takes too long.

Chainsaws are more dangerous for the user than the zombie, if the ensueing amount of zombie blood and flesh finds it's way into and open cut or your eyes... quite frankly you're screwed, not to mention the dangers of wielder a chainsaw in to first place.

I'd use the bottom end from a snooker cue, mines has a bit of weight to it, but it's light enough to sprint with, and has acceptable reach.
