After browsing through the "song you're listening to" thread I realized that we all have quite different tastes in music. So do tell: what are your favorite artists/bands, and why?
As for mine, it's a dead tie between Blink-182 and Muse. Yes, the former is cheesy and boyband-ish, but the songs are fun and fresh to listen to. As for Muse: what can I say, they're genius.

    I'll list my top 5:

Dream Theater - I love the over the top musicianship and how they cover so many different styles of music, I just wish that the bass could play out a little more.

Martyr - A technical death metal band like no other, they some how manage to bee extremely heavy and melodic and have (mostly) understandable vocals on their latest album.

Rush - A classic rock band that has withstood the test of time, with their album from last year being one of my favorites along with their '70s albums and two of the rock gods (Geddy Lee on bass and Neil Peart on drums), need I say more? Also, everyone needs to go to at least one of their concerts in their life, it's an incredible experience as long as you don't hate the music.

Cynic - Death metal meets progressive rock meets jazz fusion done so perfectly it is absolutely unbelievable at first and completely mesmerizing at times. After 15 years they're finally recording a second album this year, definitely my most anticipated album right now.

Béla Fleck & the Flecktones - Banjo and bass virtuosos often considered at the top of their field (Béla Fleck and Victor Wooten respectively) amongst others making very unique jazz and bluegrass instrumental music for the most part.
