So after my second reprogramming session, my threshold of hearing (i.e the quietest sound I can hear) in my left ear is now 40dB (normal human threshold is 20dB), across all tested frequencies. I can't understand most of the sound yet, but it's there.

so an update. Thresholds are now 25dB on average (highest is 30dB) and I scored 76% in a speech discrimination (recognising AND understanding speech) test using only the implant (no hearing aid in my other ear, and no lipreading). Normal score is apparently 40% after 3 months, so 76% after one month is pretty good going.

So, your ear working any better since the last time?

Yes and no. The audiologist replaced the hook on the processor with a smaller one, which rubbed my ear raw and it got infected, so I'm now not wearing it until I can replace the hook

So, no hearing fix for you then?

    That sucks.

Unless I have it put back in at a later date, which I'm told is medically feasible in my case.

but yeah, I'll be back to one ear with a hearing aid.

Were you born deaf in one ear or did you have an accident?

I was born hearing, I have no idea why I started going deaf (in both ears). It's got progressively worse as I got older and I had a serious infection in one ear that resulted in a mastoidectomy (removing the ossicles), making that ear almost completely deaf, and time finished the rest on that side. My right ear still has some hearing left, but not much.
