XBOX 360 VS PS3

    the cell is CONSIDERABLY more powerful than the 360 and indeed any processor currently in use in PCs. its a new architecture which is much better at certain types of intensive calculations.

    PS3 cell processor is pretty cool..but their graphic is not that much better from the the xbox 360

    and it it don't matter how powerful a machine is, without the software it will be useless

    example. DS and PSP...which one do we all love more...the DS, although the PSP is a way more powerful handheld

    I could careless which console wins...because in the end I'm the winner because I get to play both, instead of picking a console and sticking to it

    the cell processor isnt responsible for the graphics. Thats an entirely separate chip. (a Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX as it happens).

    Software only limits hardware initially, there comes a point where developers know the system well and are comfortable coding for it, then from that point on its the hardware that will become the limiting factor at some point. The x360 has almost reached the point where the hardware prevents anything much more being done, and the PS3 is nowhere near that point.

    It's a pre-built alienware pc.

    Old age or just "abuse" broke it.

    You can't tell me yoshi that you are the safest...what 13-12yr with a pc?

    Hell, if it wasn't for the fact my Dell from 1998 is working fine, I'd believe that.

    I have to support a company that use exclusively dell computers. It's a complete nightmare. Alienwares are worse because they have the most high power parts available in fancy and impressive looking cases with no consideration given to airflow or thermal performance. So they overheat.

    that's what they said about the PS2....and it's still around unlike the more powerful xbox

    look at gamestop site and you'll see there are still new games coming out for the PS2..but the more powerful xbox with the superior hardware has been dead for years....

    hardware don't matter.. it don't matter that the PS3 is more powerful....so just because the PS3 is more powerful, don't mean it will outlast the xbox360...the ps2 is proof of that

    Sony have a much better history of supporting their consoles. microsoft deliberately make their stuff obselete so you have to upgrade.

    Wait Loony you just said the cell is the most powerful processor on the planet? Crazy.

    You cant deliberately make stuff obsolete, everything computer/console ends up becoming obsolete as soon as new hardware and software is available to purchase/use.

    Because the cell is very difficult to program for and extremely expensive. However, there ARE studios that use cell based render farms.

    of course you can, it's called withdrawing support.

    Of course. I mean a CG studio will be able to afford it right? Hell,CG studio can afford anything.
    (you must have a big money to start a CG studio in the first place)
    But the Ps3 gpu is not the cell.It's Nvidia.

    I know that, its a 7800GTX. The cell architechture is just well suited to the types of calculations involved in 3d rendering and raytracing.

    That's because people are stupid and insecure and feel like they must hold on to something inanimate in order to feel accepted. Feel like they're a part of something, and stuff.

    Most people grow up from that and perceive their own individuality as a matter of personal tastes rather than a pre-made trend that they should blindly follow. Some people have a harder time doing so, though.
