Sorry for being noobish, but I really need some help. I haven't picked up on DS in months and decided to today.. I have the original R4. Updated it to the latest Wood firmware.. everything went perfect. Works like a charm, except my games won't load the sav files.
I tried the Save Manager, tried changing the .sav files myself to .nds.sav and it still won't read the save files.
I'm at the end of the latest Professor Layton game and I don't want to have to start over. Please help!
( sorry if this is redundant, I tried sifting through the pages for a solution but all of it says to change the file name, which I did -- but still doesn't read the .nds.sav )

First off all back up some .SAV files, then convert it using this:
    http://shunyweb.info/
Source format must be: R4 / Target format must be: Acekard R.P.G.
just see if it works for one game!

Why do you need to convert if you can just change 1 parametr in options menu?

Because you cant do that, and besides since v1.18 .sav is suported!

I Just have a Question, Why can't the R4 emulate GBA games? Is it a Hardware problem? whats causing it? Or if its just a software problem, do you think you might release a Wood R4 version that can do it?

    Thanks! :)

P.S. Is there a program that can copy GBA saves to and from GBA carts using the R4? thanks!

Okay I have been watching countless videos on how to put Wood R4 v1.23 on my R4DS, but I still get a black 'Loading...' screen. I'm pretty sure mine is an original, it says 'R4 SDHC Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS)' so I guess I have an original(?) I added the DAT and _rpg files to my R4, and for a test I added one game on it. Did I do something wrong?

Few carts have the ability to emulate GBA from slot 1. It's a ram limitation, not a fault of the flash cart. If you want to play GBA games with your R4, I suggest the EZ Flash 3in1 that has the ability to let you emulate GBA games provided you put the correct files for it on your MicroSD card that goes into your R4. It works very well.

The Original R4 does not support SDHC. You have one of the more common clones.

Okay well how would I add Wood then? I didn't really read up on that since I didn't know I had a clone :-[

I don't think wood will work for your cart. Try YSMENU.

So GBA roms need more ram than DS roms? that doesn't make sense. at least not to me! are there ANY GBA games that can be played on R4 or is it a universal problem? Thanks!

To make it more simple (or complicated): To emulate GBA, the DS basically needs to boot Slot 2 at the same time as Slot 1. There is not nearly enough system RAM present in the DS Phat or the DSlite to manage this. There are a handful of carts built with slot 1 GBA emulation, one of which is the Supercard DSTwo.

I would suggest the EZ Flash 3in1 for your Slot 2 though over the Supercard DSTwo for GBA emulation. The 3in1 has flawless (if not damn near flawless) GBA compatibility and comes in a DSlite size that fits perfectly in the Slot 2 with no protrusion. There is also a DS Phat model of it available, but it is very difficult to find anymore. The 3in1 works in conjunction with the Slot 1 cart though (the 3in1 acts as extra RAM) to allow GBA emulation.
