Wood R4 - The New Firmware 99.8% Compatibility (CK3)

you need your old r4 firmware. and dualboot ysmenu from there

 

Let me begin by saying that I am a total noob.

I have an original R4 card. It reads "R4 Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS)". (At least, according to another thread it is: http://forum.romulation.net/index.php?topic=40353.0). It has the R4 v1.18 kernel on it. (Whatever that means.... I'm so sorry for anyone who takes on the task of trying to help me.)

Upon attempting to play Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, I discovered it didn't work. I got a white screen. After some digging around, I found this thread, with instructions to download Wood R4 (the newest version, v1.22), and how to install it. My first problem is that there is no file titled '_rpg' in the .rar. I went ahead and copied the _DS_MENU.DAT, and found a black screen with only icons, and no text. I can't access my skins either. The only good thing is that Kingdom Hearts Re:coded loads.

Is there something missing from the instructions? Was I supposed to download something else too?

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

 

You must have downloaded the wrong version of 1.22 .
You need the one for the original R4. This is the link you need: http://filetrip.net/file.php?id=23605
You basically got it right. Just copy the __rpg folder and the _DS_MENU.DAT to the root of your card and you should be good to go.

 

I double-checked, and I did download the correct version of 1.22. There is no _rpg folder in there. I'm using WinZip Pro to open the .rar, if it matters.

Excluding .bmp files and .txt files in the .rar, I have _DS_Menu.dat, custom.ini (there are 3 of those), globalsettings.ini, lastsave.ini, liberation.pcf, r4_sd.dldi, ugulim12.pcf, uisettings.ini (3 of these), and wenquanyi_9pt.pcf.

 

Well I'm opening it with WinRar, and the folder is there. Try WinRar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm You need one of the two top links (depending on whether you have a 32 bit or 64 bit system).

EDIT: I just installed WinZip and tested it. It seems that WinZip ignores the file structure and just lists all the individual files in the archive (which is a really stupid way of doing things). So all the files you need are there, but they aren't in the correct folders. So using WinRar should fix that.

 

That worked. WinZip must have been doing something to the files.

Is there any way to get my R4 themes to work with Wood? Or do I have no choice but to download Acekard themes?

In another way: Can I modify one of my R4 themes with elements from an Acekard 2 theme to get it to work?

Nevermind; it took me a while, but I was able to take elements of my R4 theme and create an Acecard theme.

but i still dunno why are you ao angry on R4DS? Its on of the best(if not the best) card for its price espceially with wood R4 and have a DS/DSL. Great compatibility, very very cheap, 2 gb micro sd is really enough for most of users (only for the freaks that use their ds as video/music player it is not enough, though even average phones are better at this). I cant see any specific feature that acekard 2.1 can offer that R4 does not have. And if you want to try and watch a videos/play gba games on your ds buy SDST.imho.

 

Hey, No-one said anything about R4 being bad.
Sure its a handy card but only the Acekard 2i and Supercard DSTwo are better!

 

not so to pay extra 10 dollars for Acekard.
