Wood R4 - The New Firmware 99.8% Compatibility (CK3)

some guy over at gbatemp made wood to work on some clones, you might want to search for it
it's called WAIO (short for Wood-all-in-one)

i got it working on my r4 sdhc and it also saves perfectly
i've played Last Window for about an hour and hasn't encountered any problem whatsoever although it gives me some crap about the data cannot be read at the start, tried running it first on ysmenu and then switched over to wood and it works perfectly so far

haven't tried pokemon b/w with it though, but the clean version of Layton works perfectly on my r4 sdhc (it freezes using ysmenu)

Edit : Crap. Got the dreaded save corruption message when i tried loading my save, i guess i'll have to wait for a ysmenu update after all

Edit 2 : okay, tried playing Layton and Last Window again and still got that stupid save corruption message although it seems that only one save file got corrupted everytime i boot the game, so as long as i keep saving on multiple slots, i'm okay
Haven't tried playing games that has only one save slot though

Nice update works perfectly.

Idk if mine is a semi-R4clone or what but it's really good. It's just bad at holding a bunch of cheats but the wood original firmwares work perfectly.

I am having the same Spirit Tracks .sav problem as the other person in this thread.

However I periodically backup my saves, so I have a version used with the older firmware. Is there anything I can do to convert it? Can I change its settings if I load an older version of Wood onto my card?

If this is redundant, I apologize, I read the responses before as 'if you loaded your .sav with the new version it broke it' But no one mentioned having the old version backed up.

If you use your backed up/converted save you'll end up in the same position as the others.

But you can use an older version of Wood until YWG fixes this problem.

1.11 doesn't have this problem, so I suggest using that.

 

If I am right then your save file is called Spirit Tracks.SAV if so then that is your problem.
Wood R4 doesn't read .SAV files. You must change .SAV to .nds.sav and that's it.

 

No that isn't the problem.

When you load your .nds.sav on wood R4 1.12 & 1.13 it will increase the size of the save & overwrite it with a new one.

How do i get the wood r4 for clones to work on my n5? it just stays at the "loading" screen

 

Copy _DS_MENU.DAT and __rpg to the root of the SD card...else use the .NDS.

 

when i unzip the file it comes with _rpg and Wood For Clones.NDS, it doesnt have a _DS_MENU.DAT

 

You must download the topmost. (Wood R4 for original)

 

lol ok so i took the _DS_MENU.DAT from Wood R4(original) and took _rpg from Wood R4(clones) put both those files along with my games folder into my n5 card and im still stuck at "loading" screen...is there something more i need to add? , btw thx for the help

 

Ah, that is unfortunate, but thank you for the response.

As I did have the save, I put 1.10 on a separate microSD card with just Spirit Tracks, in case I have the desire to play it, but I can go without it for now.

Here's to hoping they can fix it

By the way, has this problem been discovered with any other game saves?

I'm using R4V1.01 and i've 2 folders 'moonshl2' & 'R4imenu' in my flashcard. May I ask where shld i
copy the '_rpg' folder and the '_DS_MENU.DAT' file after i extract the downloaded Wood R4?

I can't play many roms due to the old version of my R4, will appreciate someone can guide me step by step because i'm not very familiar technically with the flashcard. thanks a lot...

 

Well that's weird because mine doesn't change any save file size and I have used every version of Wood since 1.09.
Maybe you have the settings of the save file size off? They can be changed in the 'start' menu on the game select screen. Press start on a highlighted game, go to file info, press Y and you can select a save type. Mine is and always has been set to unknown/auto.

So how big are your save files? Mine are 512KB and always have been? If the auto setting doesn't work, maybe you should just try the 512KB setting.

The two files you mentioned are copied straight to your flashcart, the second one will probably overwrite one with the same name.
Before you do this, please make backups of the data files from your flashcart to a random folder on your pc, just in case they don't run.

a heads up, wood R4 is only for an original R4, you got a clone

Wood R4 is only for the R4 Original and M3 simply. not for clones!
So if you have a clone you cant use Wood R4!
