Wood R4 - The New Firmware 99.8% Compatibility (CK3)

Well ive tried soo many different things and I still get a white screen for roms... so after around 5 hours of looking for a solution I give up :-\

 

For the cheat codes, I followed everything but when I pressed x to open up cheats, nothing happend.

 

Sigh, i know i know.

 

why not upgrade to 1.25 then upgrade it to 1.26 - simples...

 

i'm looking for a wood r4 for my r4i pro gold.. a bit of help? i went on a few forums like gbatemp but they don't work!! And i tried going on this site.. http://www.r4-pro.com and downloaded the wood r4.. but it doesnt work either. :/ i really wanna play on new games!

Ok, my apologies all for probably asking the same question that others have asked before, but how exactly does one get the Wood firmware (either as the primary or alternative to work on the R4i SDHC card?)

I have the R4i-SDHC v1.4.1 from this http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/downloade.asp and it's running firmware 1.33b. My memory card is a 4GB class 6 micrSDHC. The card currently runs all the games that I've loaded on there except for the new Pokemon Black and White.

METHOD 1
I tried to install Wood as the primary by installing the following on a clean memory card:

1) Wood v1.26 for R4iDSN: Download here! (828KB) (link from page 1)
2)Wood R4iDSN (.NDS) v1.25

I did as the instruction said which is to extract the v1.26 firmware directly to the root of my memory card. I then extracted the Wood R4iDSN v1.25 (CK3).NDS file from the Wood R4iDSN (.NDS) v1.25.rar file to the root of the memory card as well.

I then copied over the a couple of the games .nds files to the root. When I booted up the card, I got a message on the DS lite of "MENU" with a ? in the upper screen.

What am I doing wrong? I noticed that he Globalsetting.ini file is pretty much blank.

METHOD 2
Alternatively, I tried to also load the Wood firmware as an alternative by doing the following:

1) I installed the normal firmware 1.33b from the manufacture's website above.
2) I copied over normal games .nds files to the root directory and I can play these games no problem.
Then I repeated everything from METHOD 1 above.

When the DS boots up, I'm booting into the default firmware 1.33b. I click on the Wood R4iDSN v1.25 (CK3).NDS file and I get an error code 1.

METHOD 3
I then tried the following:

Everything as in steps 1 and 2 of method 2, but instead of using the 1) Wood v1.26 for R4iDSN: Download here! (828KB) (link from page 1) and 2)Wood R4iDSN (.NDS) v1.25, I used:
Wood v1.25 for M3: Download here! (2.16MB)

When I used the Wood V1.25 for M3, I again booted into the default firmware 1.33b, I selected the Wood.nds file and I was able to successfully boot into the Wood firmware menu structure. However, when then navigated to the other game .nds files and tried to boot them up, I get an error and the game failed to load.

Again, what am I doing wrong?

Try out the new 'Wood for DSTT' or give WAIO a shot.

 

Again, sorry for my ignorance, where is the Wood for DSTT or the WAIO? Is the WAIO the same thing as the WAIO v1.15 (REPACKED v2.9 beta)?

I assume when you say try it, I should use it not as the primary firmware but the alternative like my METHOD 3 example?

 

Correct, but you should try WAIO v1.15 from below the normal one, as the repacked is an beta version and dont know if it works.
As for Wood for DSTT, i'm going to post it in a few seconds!

I was saying the .NDS file needed to load 1.26, its still at 1.25.

 

Okay... so... I followed what you said...
First, I downloaded the Wood v1.26 and put the _DS_MENU and the _rpg at the root of my R4. Then I put a game. When I put it in my DS, it only said LOADING... And that was so long so I removed it.

Then, what I did next, I copied everything to my R4.
Here was what I saw after copying it:
-_DS_MENU.SYS
-_DS_MSHL.NDS
-_DS_MSHL
-_R4_III
-autorun
-BOOTEX
-_DS_MENU
-_rpg
-game

It still wouldn't work! I downloaded the WAIO REPACKED v2.beta.ra and well... I did the same thing I did with the Wood. It still wouldn't work! I don't know what to do now... please help... Am I doing something wrong?

P.S. I have R4 Upgrade Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS) with a MicroSDHC 4GB.

 

I just downloaded this firmware to try it out on my DSTT but it just freezes at the loading screen?

 

is there any good themes for the woods r4 the ones that are made for woods r4

 

I'm in a bit of a sticky situation. My friend gave me an R4 clone a couple of years ago. Problem is, I don't know what type it is. It had 'MARS' firmware on it when I got it. Anybody got a clue, what type of clone it is?

Another problem (which is most likely me doing something wrong). I got wood to load last year, but I when I wanted to select a game, it would do nothing.
I have attempted to install it again, but I can't find the DS_Menu.dat people are referring to. When I boot my DS, all I get is a black screen saying 'nintendo'. (This is probably because of the missing DS_Menu.dat file. Can anybody point out where that's from?)
Is this a problem with by clone being bad?

That R4 is a clone, Wood wont work on it anyways, altho you could try the new 'Wood for DSTT' firmware and see if that works.
As for the _ds_menu.dat file, its just in the download when you download the firmware

I have been doing a bit of playing around (swapping files from my backup to this wood one) I've now got Pokemon White running.
I used the repacked 2.9 which seems to be working. But, thank you for replying

EDIT: I seem to get a black screen after the prof talks on white. This is almost definitely the ROM and not wood, but do you know of any fixes?

 

Ok, I tried the WAIO v1.15 and v1.15 (Repacked 2.9). When I tried each one, I reformatted the memory card and copied over my base firmware of v1.33b, then copied the _rpg folder and any other files included in each of the WAIO folder to the root of my memory card. Each had it's own file (.nds) that I assume I was supposed to be load depending upon the flashcard type (such as M3, R4, R4SDHC, etc.) that was saved outside of the _rpg folder. For both of the WAIO v1.15 and the Repacked, I was able to boot into the Wood firmware by selecting either the m3loader.nds, r4loader.nds or r4loadersdhc.nds. However once I got into it, when I navigated to the Pokemon Black game.nds or one of the older games and tried to load it, I just got a message of "LOADING" on a black background and nothing happened.

I couldn't get the Wood for DSTT to work. What .nds file should I try to load with that version?

Oh, one other question, in the original WAIO v1.15, there's a folder called patch, am I suppoed to do anything with that folder? I only copied the contents of the "build" folder to the root directory of the memory card and tried to boot from there using the various woodm3.nds, woodr4.nds, woodr4sdhc.nds files to boot into the alternative firmware screen when I tried run the various game.nds files.

Last question, the game .nds files, I assume I can keep them at the root directory of the memory card, as opposed to putting them into the directory of the _rpg file, correct? I also assume I don't have to make any changes to the file settings (such as save type, etc of each individual game itself and leave them at their defaults).

Should I be using the YsMenu instead?
