Wood Installation Help for Pokemon Black and White(or BW2)

First of all, I bought this R4 SDHC from a friend around 4-5 years ago all pre-installed with any necessary software. I hadn't played it for some quite some time and many games still work perfectly fine, but the problems comes when I try playing Black and White or its sequels. It freezes on a white screen after I load up the game.

I have not had any experience or prior knowledge on how to go about "playing" with an R4 other than actually playing the games so I've been looking around for a solution with no luck as of yet. I recently learned that there are even fakes of these things, but all I can tell you is that my R4 looks EXACTLY like the one featured at the beginning of this thread: http://forum.romulation.net/index.php?topic=61950.0

I've seen people remedy the issue by using what seems to be called a Wood Kernel? but these require the latest official firmware for which I have tried so many different kinds of firmware for my supposed card, that I'm not even sure which I'm supposed to go with. I have managed to access the Wood interface screen, but instead of just BW getting the white screen, all games do.

I've kind of hit a stump on the road here, think you guys here could help me out with what firmware is correct for my card and with a possible fix to my pokemon problem?

I had taken a look at that thread before but it still confuses me a bit. I've seen people comment that the Wood Kernel gets added to the latest firmware but the thread you've linked me to is kinda telling me to replace all files with the wood r4, which has given me other issues in addition to unplayable games. Though I am able to get into the Wood firmware.

Plus. I dont know if I simply adding the Wood r4 to my existing firmware will help or if I should download the latest one for my card, which I'm not even sure of what my card is, nonetheless what firmware it should have.

    1. Backup all Data on your Memory Card. Copy it to your PC.
    2. Download Wood v1.62 for R4 Original from HERE.
    3. Extract and Copy files to the Root of your SD.

You mentioned getting some other issues in addition to unplayable games, what are they?

An alternative to Wood R4 is THIS.

If you're referring to what happens when I only install the Wood r4 and nothing else onto my card, it's a start up screen which I don't know what it's called. The screen that gives me access to three options: Games, Multimedia, and I think the last one is Boot? The icons become nonexistent but still there as the text of what they were is still there and I can access it but that can't possible be normal.

I hadn't yet tried the 1.62 version of it as I was using what I thought was my version, which was v1.42 for R4 SDHC but I'll give a try as soon as I can. I also had already attempted that alternative but they failed on me also. I don't know if I'm installing the wrong firmware or maybe I'm not following the instructions properly.

Wood R4 is a completely different Kernel with a much better looking GUI and better controls and features.

WOOD R4 is not for R4 SDHC or R4i SDHC.
Will not work as not compatible. Use YSMENU/TTMENU instead.

But Prectorian Here in the flashcard compatability list it says it works on R4 SDHC (Wood for R4 SDHC)

That WOOD R4 for R4 SDHC been long dead. Far before PKM BW1 and BW2.
See the version number, it's v.1.42. Latest version v.1.62 only available for 3 carts.
And those 3 carts are the ones officially supported by Yellow Wood Goblin's WOOD R4.
Even if OP adds that WOOD version, he won't be able to load BW1 or BW2.
I suggest you direct him to use YSMENU or TTMENU, instead.
And YSMENU/TTMENU can play all available rom thanks to Jhon 591 and RetroGameFan's continuous updates.

I've tried installing YSMENU/TTMENU but I'm not even sure I'm installing the original R4 SDHC firmware correctly. Am I supposed to only install the TTMENU/YSMENU or is it supposed to compliment my original firmware(which I think is R4 SDHC v1.34, although at this point, I'm not even sure anymore). Maybe it's because I'm starting completely from scratch, you know, deleting all my previous files and trying to install the v1.34 software that is mentioned for my R4 on that page you guys linked me to.

When I install the R4 v1.34 onto my card alongside the R4 SDHC YSmenu, I eventually get frozen on a black LOADING screen after starting up the DS. There were a few overlapping files like the _DS_MENU.DAT files which I think might have been problematic but I'm not even sure. Frustrating even though I try to follow the instructions on that page...

I don't know if I should make a new thread by now but when I install R4 SDHC v1.34 on my card, I also get stuck on the black LOADING screen so the problem might not be the YSMenu firmware. Can anyone help point out what I'm doing wrong here? =/

    Check RetroGameFan R4SDHC (show)

    http://gbatemp.net/threads/retrogamefan-updates-releases.267243/

    are

    Code:
    R4SDHC (v1.34 kernel) : www.r4sdhc.com

Backup your µSD to a Backup folder on your PC BEFORE upgrading to a new Kernel

Format your µSD with the Panasonic SD Formatter 3.1
    Use these options :
    FORMAT TYPE - FULL (OverWrite)
    FORMAT SIZE ADJUSTMENT - ON

    PRIMARY Kernel :
Extract these files from R4SDHC YSMenu folder and copy to root of your µSD :

    Games folder
    TTMenu folder
    _DS_MENU.DAT
    TTMenu.dat

    Boots automatically to YSMenu.

(Note) Always backup SD card content first, for backup.

Panasonic SD Formatter 3.1 Not needed, Just basic format.

Move onto PRIMARY Kernel : from hist firmware: http://www.mediafire.com/download/yyc2uu7ubadmo7x/RetroGameFan+Multi+Cart+Update+v7.00b3.7z

But PS: to say R4 SDHC is worse clone card ever sadly .

Yeah I've been hearing that a lot about the R4 SDHC unfortunately. =/ I'm gonna try it one more time although I do get a black LOADING screen after I upgrade my Kernel to v1.34 without adding the YSMenu/TTMenu. In the R4SDHC, there is a fifth file called "YSMenu.nds" after these:

    Games folder
    TTMenu folder
    _DS_MENU.DAT
    TTMenu.dat

does that go into the TTMmenu folder?

    0. Don't use your sites firmware.
    1. Backup your card firmware games/saves
    2. Format your SD card.
    3. Download retrogamefan firmware, http://www.mediafire.com/download/yyc2uu7ubadmo7x/RetroGameFan+Multi+Cart+Update+v7.00b3.7z
    4. Extract these files from R4SDHC YSMenu folder and copy to Root of your µSD : "Root mean Main Screen"
    Games folder
    TTMenu folder
    _DS_MENU.DAT
    TTMenu.dat

On the other hand is all fails, They should be a firmware called WAIO v1.16 for R4 Clones,

In case all else fails, what's the best and most affordable R4 card you can recommend? I really don't know if I'm not following instructions properly or if my card is just crap so I wanna test one or the other.

For playing NDS rom, then the r4i Gold 3DS from r4ids . cn should be one of several better choice for you. Further more it is officially supported by WOOD R4iDSN.

I apologize if this is answered, But , I purchased the R4i Gold 3DS Plus, and did the standard "D" setup with the 1.64 ver wood kernal, I play alot of pokemon games , all versions. The setup I put on the card won't play the Pokemon Black 2 or White2 roms, everything else fine so far. It won't load them in either my 3DS or my DSI xl. When I try to start them I get "white "loading" tag that turns to red "loading tag after a short time. How do I fix this issue? Thank you for your efforyts! :nds::bow::unsure::confused:

    Assuming that other Pokemon roms work through Wood R4 for your cart brand; you've 2 options to bypass that AP protection;
    1. Update/add the latest usrcheat.dat to your Wood's cheat folder, and activate AP Fix cheat before loading the game rom. Search for the file through Google - I don't retain any copy since I no longer play NDS games.
    2. Patch the rom using RGF's tool beforehand : https://www30.zippyshare.com/v/NexIhYus/file.html
(iirc) Wood R4 was abandoned after Pokemon Black/White 1. YWG didn't release any update since then. Also you might need to try changing the savefile format through Wood's option.

Personally, I will go for the Patch rom, it's a bit easier I guess, especially that I'm not good at these kind of stuffs
