quite frankly I didn't trust Vista enough to even try it. and 7 is just a rehash of Vista that has been designed to be a little less clunky for the purpose of netbooks, but it still has all the same stuff running in the background. just a lighter interface. it's like switching from Gnome to XFCE for linux. the same stuff can run but the interface is lighter.

@ YoshiFlip - well when was the last time you ever ran a disk check or disk defragment? Your drives can endure a lot, but they're not invincible.

Actually, 7 is significantly different to vista.

Must you tear apart every statement I make? For me if the OS still has the same DRM's in it that the previous version had, Then it is still garbage. List the "significant" differences in 7 (other than interface) and Vista that isn't another anti-feature or a slight mod of a previous implementation.

Besides just because I am a linux user doesn't mean that I have not studied the new Windows versions. I have explored vista and 7 and do not like them because I have ran into them telling me no. I like an OS that says yes to things I ask it to do.

much faster performance, much higher software compatibility, far more control over the system

    Never...

    And it has more features.
If I'm correct your computer needs more for 7, but Vista needs even more then 7.

Also, 7 doesn't use that much.
Windows mostly says Yes to things you want it to run. If it really cannot, it says No.

But lets get back on topic please?

the faster performance comes from the change in interface to be lighter (hence the Gnome to XFCE reference), the software compatibility isn't really much of a "new" feature since every version of Windows since XP has had it to an extent. as for more control, I would say that's debatable but this is 7 to Vista differences. so I will give you that one.

quite frankly the whole program compatibility is nearly pointless because it isn't really the OS company's job to make the OS compatible with the "old" programs, it's the programmer's job to make their programs compatible with the newer version of the OS, or to update them to work. But then again if I want to play a game that was designed for XP I would want to be able to play it... however the only games I have that are that old are not actually designed with NT in mind, windows ME (gag) and back (mainly 98) so the XP compatibility mode won't do be any good if the game runs in 98. so I tend to keep XP for those old games... or maybe give Virtualbox or VMware a go to get the older versions of windows running so I can play the older games (since they require less to run) or help out with developing ReactOS...

The thing is that Microsoft, Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Apple, etc. is in it for the money. They want you to buy the newest OS, so that you can buy new computers, and to buy new hardware to work with the new OS, such as printers, monitors, joysticks, and other peripherals. Even the game evolve to use the newer hardware and then the next OS comes around to drop the overall performance of the computer so you will buy the latest and greatest hardware all over again. It's a vicious cycle...

but yes to get back on topic, defrag that hard drive and if necessary change the view options so it doesn't try to read the video files for preview images.

there also may be a problem with a lack of RAM (right click My Computer/Computer, and click properties. It should say how much RAM you have installed), or possibly a lack of free space on your hard drive. Keep in mind that the hard drive needs a good amount of space free for it to properly function (or for that matter, defragment). Definitely go now and defragment your computer. Immediately. Since you've never done it, that's not a good sign. Search it, if you don't know where it's located.

    Free space:
    C: 110 GB/150 GB
    D: 190 GB/198 GB

    RAM: 1.50 GB

Defragmenting is located on the properties of your drive, under EXTRA.

^I know that out of my head while I am on this laptop.

    just saying my peace...
I never said that 7 wasn't better than Vista. I just see it as the same crap, different interface. That is all.

No way d00d. Win7 is like loonylion said:
People just think it is because it looks like vista. Its faster and more user-friendly.
    and learn to spell...
    That is all!

Troll harder... I spelled everything correctly. I've used 7 enough and I find that XP is more "User friendly" than either one of them.

    Stop it please.

This is non-related to the subject, you two are just fighting about what-is-the-difference.
Check the Microsoft website to learn more.

I am not gonna touch my computer for a few days, so I will get a report later.

I do admit that 7 is slightly better in interface than Vista, but only slightly. So enough on that. FYI Yoshi, those are only the differences that Microsoft wants you to know.

But, yeah good point. Enough with the back and forth that gets us nowhere and just ends up making us look like fools.

Just check their site, even if you already have readed it.

IT IS NOT ONLY THE INTERFACE.
    (just had to yell, sorry)

    End of discussion about OS'.

I have some bad feeling my computer won't start, though.
