    Oh boy, I hate you.
Oh my, I hate you more.
Newer generation gamers go for what's popular, not about the graphics. it just so happens that the games that ARE popular are games with high-end graphics.

Nothings changed, even when I was young in 80s and 90s everybody used to talk about games having the best graphics.
Kids at school would rant about the latest game with AWESOME graphics, and its going to be exactly the same in the future too.
The smart gamers will see more than graphics, some wont and will miss out on some great games. I think these are the people who don't care too much really anyway.
Look at the older people on game forums, they all say a game should have more than graphics, the older graphic whores are not on game forums probably because they don't care too much for games.

Eye Candy will always grab anyone's attention, whether they be old school or newbie gamers. But most often eye candy isn't enough.

thing is visuals are good enough yet graphics whores still want better visuals also a cowpat with a top hat and a suit may look nice but in the end it still is shit

its true though, it does have better graphics :p that doesnt mean that metroid prime 2 is a bad game, in fact, i love that game. and you cant compare both since they are from different gen consoles

Metroid games have never strived for overly realistic graphics, it would be pretty fucking stupid if they did.
Anyway... CoD's single player campaign is a huge pile of shit in comparison.

Depends on the game. I don't mind a good FPS that focuses on multiplayer, just as long as it's good.

I still enjoy playing Contra on Snes Emulator, that game was and still is very cool.
Donkey Kong Country Series is too a great game, not to mention Super Mario Bros. and Mortal Kombat.
The old ones, they're special, I don't think today's can be like that, however, on today graphic is a great thing, but not the most important.
The storyline, the enviroment, it's all that matters, but thinking about, some games is great with those realistic graphics and I can't imagine them in a low ended architeture. Cause with the great graphics we got more features in the game.
The great graphics, most the FPS ones, looks like it's you the character, as these days, I'm enjoying Metro 2033, I can play it on the highest settings and I'm glad for it's reality that help, cause these great graphics help more, cause the fear feature, the shadows and thing.
Take Silent Hill for example, back in 2002~2004 it was the most great graphics, wich makes it more realistic, the faces, the character's expression and most the scenario, it was so real in that time.
And games like Crysis, about a 3D graphic loading in the far horizon, it gives you sence that it's not as limited as some games, where they put a fog or a 2D scenario in the horizon, like driver 2 for example, you coulda see the graphic loading, sometimes they didn't even load.

Why should EVERY game tailor to the Single player crowd? There's also a multiplayer crowd to please. And its very rare to have a game that excels and does great in both aspects. Some of the best shooters this gen are only single player or only multiplayer (Bioshock and TF2).

As you might have noticed, TF2 is a fully multiplayer game with no single player element that doesn't involve bots. The irritating thing is when games are dressed up to have the token 5-hour singleplayer and very little work has been put into making it a worthwhile experience, because the primary focus has been placed into multiplayer.

Oh, you were talking more about online.
I agree, the same effort should be put into their offline content, and if it's on a console, the offline multiplayer aswell (it's the reason i own more than one pad for christs sake).

I don't mean to be taking sides, but Online gaming/Online features is the future of game development.
Are you guys familiar with the term "Piracy"?
If there are no online features for a game, then once it gets cracked & people download it, those people have no reason to buy the game since everything can be cracked and given for free.
How ever, if the game contains online features/online play which is much better than offline/singleplayer then it will persuade people to buy the game since they usually dont have much of a choice if they want to play online.
Its the only efficient choice game developers have.
Developers that do not concentrate on online features will not get a steady increase in profits since everything they make will be downloaded for free.
