Gee, Mario kart has sub-par graphics, it sucks right?

    Chris Martinet is disappoint.

On topic; There are some games where the lack of flashy graphics adds to the experience. Professor Layton, for example, would have only been 1/3 as charming a game had it had 3D, super colourful graphics. "Ivy the Kiwi? (question mark?..wtf?)" on the DS has a hand drawn style that I thought complimented the natural theme of the game very well (pretentious wording FTW!). What I'm saying is: sometimes bad graphics=good graphics.

Those are examples of art styles over technical prowess when it comes to graphics. Along with that, those games in no way have bad graphics, just simple ones.

My definition of bad graphics: When the game has such bad graphics, that it detracts from the product, this can include older games, that have dated graphics.

Sprite based games are a different story, most of them do look good. They stay that way forever and there's really no way to go from there in terms of textures, draw distance, geometry, etc. There are some sprite based games that do look terrible, but there's few and far between.

I know I should learn how to determine when someone is being sarcastic on a forum, but I'm still clueless. Care to teach me some of the finer points then?

As I see it, kid friendly graphics are the ones that have:

    1. Cartoony designs, like with Mario, or Kirby.
    2. It uses whimsical cartoonish violence, like showing no blood or showing no expression of getting hurt or in pain.

Quite simply, because they are conditioned to by the games companies. It's relatively easy to make a game with awesome graphics compared to say a game with an incredible and complex storyline or a game with clever and unique gameplay mechanics. So, by conditioning everyone into considering that graphics are the benchmark for a good game, the games companies can put less actual effort into their games.

Ouch, painful stab but very truthful.

What's your point? try naming some games instead of posting your meaningless crap.
That should be everyone's definition of bad graphics.
However, i'm more tolerating of games with "dated graphics" because i look at gameplay first.

On topic: They have no logical reason, they're graphic obsessed bastards who crave realism in every game they play, thus always play the same few.
I know a few people like that, they still play modern warfare 2 as if it was their only game. They get very offended whenever i criticize that shit.. enough to get them into swear rages lol, they can't bear the truth.

I'm more tolerant of older games too, but it's hard to not get annoyed by their poor resolution, and extremely blocky graphics or jaggies. This is even worse in the case of PC games.

It's a straight up lie to say that no one is even a little bit annoyed by any of the things I've mentioned.

Kid graphics aren't even descriptive of either of these points, cartoon graphics is something that's a lot more descriptive. Realistic graphics is more descriptive, cel shaded is even more descriptive etc.

yep, Loonylion has soo much wisdom, its awesome how he always talks truth :)
new gen players suck. they only care about graphics. i care of graphics too, but i care more in gameplay. thats why i still enjoy games like super metroid, super mario world, and other old games. when games actually were good. some people didnt like legend of zelda windwaker because it looked too childish, i actually liked it alot, gameplay, and story

WW's art style definitely wasn't one of its flaws. The ones that didn't like it are morons, no less.

I don't hate FPS, there has been many i've enjoyed in the past. It's just one genre i've gotten sick of over time like it's stagnant. Very little FPS interest me now, i'll make exceptions if a game displays somthing unique (MW2's monotonous gameplay doesn't in the slightest, i can't understand why people still play it for hours on end).

Just because someone doesn't like something doesn't make them a moron.

Super Mario Kart is an example of that. I can't play it normally on my DSi...because of the graphics.

True. Their reasons for disliking them does however, by referring to them as kiddie (that's the only argument they usually have against it, and it's a fail).
Then try playing it via an emulator that actually works.

Such a question with infinite possibilities. I for one would not judge a game entirely on graphics. The game could be very ugly, yet it could deliver a solid story with awesome gameplay.
