It really doesn't matter who makes Sonic games or what decade it's from. We all know what makes a Sonic game awesome no matter if it was from the 90's or now, and that is 2D side scrolling Sonic.

Any other Sonic game doesn't come close to a 2D Sonic game. Yes, I do like Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast, but didn't anyone feel like a by stander playing that game? I felt that what I did in the game didn't really matter. Sonic Adventure was just a game that was made to show of awesome 3D graphics. In the end it did show awesome 3D graphics, but who actually thought it was a great game?

I like anything by sega that's NOT sonic. I mean there are some pretty good sega games coming out that I've cheacked out in japanese. Phantasy Star Ø, Sands of Destruction.

SEGA hasn't exactly been good to any of it's franchises in recent years; Sonic is just the most marketable & perhaps worst handled one. I can't imagine any kid today demanding their parents to buy them a game about Sonic being an Arthurian knight, & definitely no (sane) old-school fan buying it. Anyway.

Looking at the list of franchises on Wikipedia, & the year they were released, then looking the newest games scores shows that SEGA has dropped the ball on nearly every one. The House of the Dead, Golden Ave, NiGHTS - all were mediocre or worse. A bigger shame is the number of series they've seemingly abandoned. Alex Kidd, Kid Chameleon, Landstalker, Space Harrier, Streets of Rage, Vectorman, Chu Chu Rocket, Metropolis Street Racer, it goes on & on.

I'd like to see them pick up good series, that have solid entries, & continue those. Skies of Arcadia, Jet Set Radio, Panzer Dragoon, Shinobi, Virtua Tennis - these are some good examples where they've attempted sequels or re-releases recently, & did them well. They have such a huge catalog that goes way beyond Nintendo's stable of kid-friendly, practically identical character-based games. Basically they have all this potential, but lack either the creativity or money to produce decent games from it regularly.

There actually ws going to be a sequel for Street Of Rage during the years of the Saturn. But there were some disagreemenets and it was eventually released as Fighting Force which was released for PS1, N64 and and PC.

Thank god it wasn't released as Streets Of Rage, as It wasn't the best game I ever played.

maybe we should all help sega by going out and buying every single sega game we can find, which wouldgive them enough money to make at least one good game.
