I can probably say the same about _____ genre. It bothers me when people who do not take the time to properly criticize a certain genre make snide remarks such as "Rap is not music", etcetera. Instead of, you know, actually taking the time to listen to it. If you can analyze, say, a rap album, and define what you don't like about it, that's all well and good. Again, if you just saw 50 Cent on MTV singing about his "lollipops" and his various ways of fornication, and exclaim " OMG RAP IS TEH SHIT, IT NOT MUSIC!", then you should really consider what criticism means. Rap about the economy? Mathematics by Mos Def is one that rings my mind.
Yes but the meaning of rap is not to sound good really but to mean something... "I have hoes and I have money, these girls make my saliva all runny" is something I do not want to hear, it's got no good meaning
Then we are in agreement. I think rap "superstars" such as 50 Cent, T.I., *AHEM* SOULJA BOY *AHEM* tarnish the image of rap. Mainstream+rap = c+rap. BTW, cjdogger, you should do some nerdcore
Yep, basically any genre can be good, but the people who produce the music can give a genre a bad name. And nerdcore Perhaps one day...
All that the kiddies in my shitty city like is reggaeton and the mainstream rap that is aforementioned. Therefore (in most cases like there), they turn into... idiots. I lost faith on the mentality of the people who live here. All people do here is get drunk, preggo, STDs (Florida is the NUMBER ONE STATE of the amount of people with STDs), and just plain sluttery. Bottom line: Shitty rap = shitty minds 99% of the time.
i hate soldja boy the fact that he is probably making tons of money makes me hate society for listening to him my friend used to like watever his song was i think it was crank dat but it honestly made me want to punch him the song only has 3 notes! i think there are like 10 words its rediculous this guy has no tallent but i dont blame him if i were making money for barly singing and hitting three notes on a keybord then id never stop i blame the people that listen to it it really is awful i'm not a fan of rap but i wont say it is a tallentless genra or that it is all bad music some of it is pretty good whether i like it or not and to come up with all the lyrics, even if they are admitedly sexist, would be difficult PS are there any girl rappers??? i couldnt imagin a girl sing about b@#$%s and h$%s and dinking and stealing
Actually most rappers nowadays can't write nothing to pay the rent. Today's rap music are mostly catered towards the ringtone market and mass commercialization. So forget about hearing complex rhymes structures from the likes of Eminem or Jay-Z cause today's generation would rather "Superman hoes" than appreciate Biggie's intricate flows.
I think it's more of a "rhythmic poetry"...you can't just recite lines and expect it to sound good. It's not easy to write something clever. The "noise" backing it, well...if you get good beats then you will have a heck of a song even if your rhymes aren't that "tight". Sampled beats (like Kanye or Just Blaze) are nice but I like The Neptunes and Timbaland beats too. and don't forget Dr. Dre's simplistic yet catchy beats.
www.nalaholics.com/01_-_Holloway_Stanley_-_With_Her_Head_Tucked_Under_Her_Arm.mp3 And before anyone complains, it was recorded in 1926, so it's older than you.
i thought it was rap music...sounds like generic 1920s music to me...but not bad though however how does it applies to rap music?
its a musical monologue, essentially speech over a backing track. Which is pretty much all rap is. there is no attempt to sing or make the speech flow with the backing track.
i think you got is twisted bro, rap music follows the basic music structure of 4/4...so basically a rapper has to "fit" his raps (pre-written rhyme if you may) within this structure. merely reciting a line to a backing track is not rapping. it's not as easy as it seems. as for the singing...it is rap music so basically you rap. There are songs which features R&B singers, but there are rappers who can sing.

i cba reading through the whole thing, but i like rap, and by those 4 little words ive made 400 enemies granted soulja boy is crap, he is a disgrace and i used to hate kanye but his new stuff is really good, eminem is the best white rapper ever, better than one hit wonder vanilla ice. I like most rap and lil wayne is good, especially if you listen to let it rock, thats a rap/rock fusion. i hate rock, those three little words made me 3000 more enemies, however i dont see how anyone can like heavy metal rock, a bunch of freaks screaming on stage is the idea of hell for me. Dont hate me because of my opions though, i like all sorts of music except heavy metal rock/screemo and classical stuff. Any opinions?
Liking rap isn't a bad thing in the least but it is in this case. You have everything backwards. Kanye's older stuff is significantly better than his new stuff. 808 & Heartbreak is a disgusting fucking disgrace. Eminem is shit. His early stuff was immature but he could actually rap then but his newer stuff is an ear-strain. And Lil Wayne is even worse than Soulja Boy. Shut Up Bitch Swallow and A Milli just about sum up his musical career. Also you've elaborated on your disdain for heavy music enough to show that you've been underly-exposed to a wide spectrum of music because of an irrationally stereotypical image you have in your head.
i wouldnt really call kanyes new stuff rap however, ever since his wife left hes stopped being a dick and thinking he is the best, and i prefer eminems older stuff to crack a bottle. 50 cents bit in that is embarassing, its like he is reading the lyrics as he goes but he cant read the writing. Maybe i havent listened to enough heavy metal, and yes i am stereotyping them all to be like slipknot, and yes i apolgise. but at the end of the day im intitled to my opinions and so is everyone else.
