It doesn't matter if you don't consider rap to be music. It is music. It's just not a genre that you like. It's not musically skilled, mind you, but even modulated white noise is music. I once made a 25'ish minute noise track with shoegaze influence, if you can imagine that. Lost in a reformat, RIP.

I hate all of it, we had to write up letters to the "editor" about issues or whatever, and I wrote on why it's horrible and blah. We actually sent them in, but mine wasn't since there were too much swearing in it.

I completely forgot, a fantastic rap album by DJ Danger Mouse & Jemini: Ghetto Pop Life. Y'all niggas can't judge the genre without hearing the song "Ghetto Pop Life". Fuck year.

Man, all you saying rap is bad, because some people made it bad, then everyone copied the bad people so all of it is wack. But there are good rappers like Ice T, Snoop Dogg, Nas, and the other O.G's. Just these new teenage rappers suck, and the people that use voice box.

our arguments are falling on deaf ears barthum, like i said there is rap/hip-hop and then there is rap they are two completely different things. imagine the uproar it would cause if i said heavy metal and rock are the same things which really is the same comparison........

I'm saying rap is bad because its my opinion and I'm entitled to voice it. I'm not telling you to that you can't listen to it, I'm just telling you I don't like it.
Only difference I ever noticed was that hip-hop is a bit more radio-friendly. Beyond that, I have no idea.

Hip hop also incorporates dancing as it evolved from the 80's punk break dance sensation.

Rap on the other doesn't necessarily envolve any dance elements to it, well they do have that stupid sway-ey point to something, grab the bling crap moves.

Without a doubt, Soulja Boy and the new "teenage" rappers. Complete bullshit.
To all of those bashing on rap, it's not "cool" anymore. Before it went "mainstream" it was actually good. Rappers like Nas, Notorious BIG, (the early) Eminem was part of the golden generation that tried to bring rap to the masses. Unfortunately, rap has lacked innovation currently, with most of the current generation unable to rhyme worth shit (fuck you Soulja Boy).

Eh...what's everyone's opinion of Fort Minor (a.k.a Mike Shinoda) then? He's a part of Linkin Park though he released a separate solo album ... i guess i prefer him over most of the rappers :S

well i am pretty sure that that goes for most forms of music. music goes through fads just like everything else, me i am a nineties kind of guy i am really not discriminate about music from that era for christ sake i even like most of the country that was big in that decade. almost all music has gone pop to be honest i really dont see much artistic integrity coming from anywhere these days hip-hop/rap has just gone way over the top since the talentless gangster rap of fifty cent was huge now everyone has followed his lead. rap music in my definition relies on one person or small group of people and the spoken words in the song ie tribe called quest wu tang pac and hip-hop/rap music primarily relies the studio production values ie tune bass like TI guy has no talent and his lyrics suck but they just give his songs an epic sounding tune and he sells millions, hip-hop songs usually dont rely on the lyrics or talent of the featured "artist" in fact generally these are people with absolutely no talent but have an image that some people like....i mean cmon lil john sold a butt load but there was absolutely no talent involved with any of their crap, and if you do accept my definition of the two genres you will realize that rap is a dying if not already dead genre of music that has been replaced by the genre of hip-hop. so here is a question for all you haters, do you also consider pop music to be the same thing as rock? cause again it is the same comparison......and again they really arent the same thing. i dont care if anyone hates both of these genres of music because yes it is your opinion but at least realize that there are distinctions between the two before you go blaintantly flaming.......

Just Lose It. Man, is that song funny!

Those are not rappers, those are let's-get-my-voice-on-a-PC-for-some-money dudes. They are purely commercial "singers" they have no love for music.

Dream Theater, on the other hand, have love for what they do. Otherwise, why would they bother and compose 10 minutes songs?
