but I don't think that would have killed it for everything from the PC's to the PS3 and DS's (which don't have updatable wireless drivers)

Sounds like it's being a wireless hog. Sometimes a few devices will take up all of the Wireless and leave nothing for the other devices. Stick on a wired connection since that seems to be the only workaround.

I like XP for its driver support, especially printers since NONE of the drivers work for Vista or 7. With LLTP, XP has the same functionality as Vista as far as file sharing goes.

I HATE the security on Vista (can't say for 7 since I've never used it)...at least COMODO remembers my answers...
Vista's so bad, it takes 3, 4, 5-10 minutes to MOVE a file from one spot to another, regardless of its size.

I have Windows 7 and consistently use a router for wireless to my PS3 and DS with no issues. The router probably just isn't compatible with Windows 7 with its current drivers, or just flat out isn't compatible. Look into getting a new router if yours is 4, 5, or even 6 years old.

Yeah, if you still have Vista, skip it and go straight to 7.

ive started using xp again recently because dos games wont work with 7 and dosbox runs too slow
both are equally as good for my use(gaming). because 7 has the latest direct x and xp plays the older games

Windows XP was good, but it's old. That's about it.

Windows Vista was good on new computers. Due to the disproportionately huge gap in time between the release of Windows XP and Windows Vista, users forgot about the obligatory system requirements increase from previous operating systems, and criticized the OS for it. As for bugs, they were pretty much solved soon after public release. To be honest, most of Vista's haters were just jumping on the bandwagon.

Windows 7 is good. That's about it.

I used Vista for about two or three years. I can safely say that I disliked it strongly. It was really just annoying. The security was over the top, and the only way to turn it down was to turn it off.

7 is an incredible improvement overall.

I turned it off and never worried about it ever again. No problem.

That was really my only complaint with Vista. I have to agree with the fact that overall, it wasn't an awful OS. It wasn't great, but it really wasn't bad. It did have some minor issues running some programs that would easily run on even on XP, but those issues were never too terribly hard to solve. Compatibility was also ever increasing with pretty frequent updates.
