i played FF7, and stopped at the 3rd CD ebcause it became too boring.

TWEWY has a great storyline from beginning to end, but once you've finished it, that's it (at least for me).

Best storylines would have to be Hotel Dusk, Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire 3 and Final Fantasy 6, in no particular order.

Great game on the PSX. The story was excellent.
Then there's also Breath of Fire 2. It also had an excellent story.

    I'd say Okami.

Namco X Capcom had nice storyline too, ending was very rewarding... but those bastards killed Saya! *sniff*

Japanese games have some of the worst stories ever created. I don't know if something gets lost in translation or what, but games like ff VII and metal gear make me want to stab my brain for escape. It's like they just throw every possible plot element into a big hat and randomly select 20 and mash them all together into a big incoherent mess. Throw in some stupid-eyed emos with ridiculous hair and/or physical oddities in place of actual character depth, then drop in 400 parts unnecessary dramatics and you have your story.

Of course there are brilliant exceptions, like TWEWY.

Actually-while I only know metal gear solid well-you have to understand the aspect of the wars that has happened and such...

I couldn't grasp metal gear solid 3 because it's the cold war-something I am not familier with-my mate would know it :)

Some parts are very odd I will admit...pysco mantis..wtf!?

It's a shame nobody said Legacy of Kain. IMHO nothing can beat the Legacy of Kain Saga...unfortunately it seems that we'll never know how it ends.

The Quintet trilogy released on the SNES had the saddest story I've ever played, but you have to play all three to get the full effect: Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma, play to the end of all three and you wont be disappointed.
btw, all three had the hardest final bosses on the SNES!

I've never completed Illusion of Gaia...
    What is the proper order..?
And I don't think Soul Blazer or Terranigma's final boss is hard...

Soul Blazer- Sort of represents the beginning of the world, you talk to god and everything.
Illusion of Gaia- The middle game but the best in my opinion.
Terranigma- Represents the end of the world when evil finally wina and also the regeneration of a new one.

I'm so glad that ff7 Fanboy stopped posting in this topic... As earlier mentioned best storyline is subjective, My favourite storyline would probably have to be ff8. It's compelling, makes you want to play till the end, has a nice love story, and without killing one of the main characters *hinting at another FF game* manages to make you sad. *certain final fantasy game made me laugh when said character was killed*. The only controversial thing about FF8's storyline is the jump from fighting a witch to fighting a space witch who wants to go back in time and F*!@ up the universe. It's still my favourite.

Final Fantasy VII had a great story line.

I think all of the old point-and-click adventure games had great storylines. I think people are getting confused between storylines and endings. A lot of the games mentioned have similiar save the world type storylines. Sure they all differ in the detail but I think the way these games end are what people really remember-not the storyline as such. I really liked the ending of Jade Empire but the storyline was pretty generic.

P.S. I hope I haven't offended anyone with this post- 'cause that was not my intention at all.
