    Storyline...storyline...
I guess TWEWY steals the show for this one, but on DS only, I really liked Luminous Arc's story

and if I could understand the story in Knights in The Nightmare, I'm pretty sure it would be good

    FFVII had a epic story.
Asasin's Creed had an "cliche" but awesome story.
God of War still gives a twisted story.
    Halo's is really epic.

    dragon quest.

i never really played any of the dragon quest games before. when square released the ds remake of dragon quest 4, i was really surprised on how good the game is as an rpg. i now understand why japan is so in love with the series of dragons quest. i'm trying to play the ps2 dragons quest 8 but i'm not that into it because of the 3d environment. but what i've played so far on dq8 is great.

Also, most survival games have good stories
like Resident Evil and Silent Hill

I totally agree, although, it wasn't the best.
I liked the story lines of Final Fantasy 7, TWEWY, and many other games. But to pick the best of them all, that would be very hard.

storylines are pretty much like books
everybody has different taste, so picking the best one is pretty much impossible

lol what's with the guy repeatedly saying that FF7 has the best storyline ever? it definitely does NOT have the best storyline ever, hell it doesn't even have the best storyline of all the FF games. that belongs to FF4 (Cecil, Kain, Golbez, etc). Yes im an FF6 lover, but i can safely say that FF4 has a better storyline than 6.

Best storyline? I could name a few, but im not sure which is the best. Ace Attorney games, Hotel Dusk, Breath of Fire III, TWEWY, Broken Sword, etc.

I choose FFIX's story, especially the part when nearing the end where the hero goes a bit mental from learning the truth.
It was the first FF I played and definately one of the best IMO.

    How about Suikoden 2?
It's the first RPG game I have ever played, and I think it has a very good storyline.

TWEWY is a very good one too! ;)

I know.... but of all the RPG games I've ever played, I still think Suikoden 2 has the best Story. ;D
Well... every person have their opinion though :p

I really think that persona 3 for the playstation 2 has a very good storyline. I found myself playing that game all the way through more then once. the story is very intriguing, to me at least. ^^

    lol at the FFVII fanboy

    Probaly a troll account :x

Anyway. Like you I am a fan of good storyline games. I am a fan of "lets-save-the-world" games though xD

    Anyway:

For GBA: <-- King of good RPGs
Final Fantasy IV , V, and VI.
......... For the IV, get the remake on DS. V is optinal but funny. VI is a must-play, you cant stop playing games until you meet kefka, realy.

Golden Sun: Book 1 and Book 2:
......... get ready for a realy long history from 2 diferent points of views. Epic game

    Tales of Phantasia :
.......... Nice start. The game gets boring near the end though.

Yggdrasil Union We willl never fight alone
.......... The ending will make you go "WTF!".

    Fire Emblem:
.......... My favorite tatic game ever! play the blazing sword and right after it look for the translated version of the sword of seals. The FE 8 you can ignore for gods sake.

    Legend of Zelda:
........... Minish cap if you want to have fun. and A link to the past if you are looking for something more deep.

    Metroid:
............ May not be a horror game but will make you chill. Nice game. Zero mission first, Fusion right after.

Other Games that you may find interesting (with simple plots tough)
Sword of mana, FF I and II, MMZ series (no joke), Shining force, Lufia, Lunar legend, Zone of the enders: fist of mars.

For SNES: With the best games are on GBA though, lol remakes.
    Lufia II
......... This game kick ***. I didnt belived at start that was for Snes.

    Terranigma
......... I am starting to play it now. Seens to be good. BTW, for games with good plot. Check the "Falcon" games, I garante good music and a good plot.

    Chrono Trigger
.......... Must play. You cant live without playing this! there is a remake for DS.

DS games: Big deception.... DS compared to the GBA is lacking god plot games. Thats so sad... -_-''
    TWEWY :you know that one...

    Suikoden
.......... II and Tierkreis may be usefull.

Legend of YS: Book I and II
.......... Must play! And FINISH IT. Most peaple that said bad about this game is because they didnt finished it at all.

Valkirya profile: Covenant of the plume
........... A war, one anti-hero, 3 points-of-view and one objective. This game is worth a book.

I also would recomend Soma Bringer (simple plot, but interesting), Knights in the nightmare (kinda dark story), Phoenix Right (write? The lawer one oO) and Both Luminous Arc (simple plot but with a nice twist middle game).

    Playstation I & 2

    FinalFantasy (ps1)
.......... VII may be over because of the excessive fanboys (lol nemesis) but its still decent, cant be compared to IV or VI tough >_>. VIII if you like complex RPGs and IX for relaxing. My favorite is the IX one, since it the last "fantasy" kind of FF games. I personaly didnt liked the Ps2 games though, still worth to try (just stay away from FF X-2)

    Valkirya Profile 1 and 2
........... Realy deep history based on the Nordic (?) mithology. Worth the game. There is a remake for PSP forthe frist game. Second is for ps2.

    .Hack
........ Seven Games... of (almost) continous history. I only played G.U so far (the last trilogy) and its... pretyy... good. Like Golden sun one game starts exact at the last ending. Very good. There is also the first 4 games that are the whole base of the story. pretty good.

    Xenosaga (I & II & III)
......... I Still want to play it, but from what I heard... its epic in every point of view. must play... and i need to find it first >_>

    Persona III and IV
......... I also didnt played. But respect, its pretty good.

    Okami
......... I am kinda okami-maniac. So i will just say that the game is good and end here. *.*

    Final Fantasy Tatics
......... Being called heretic never sounded so badass. The remake for PSP (?) is better, but the ps1 version still kick ass. probaly one of the best Storyes of all FF games released so far. Must play!

    I also recomend:
Zone of Enders: First and Second Runner (that make Star Wars fans to chill out, nice game)
Tales of Synphonia: most games of the "Tales" series are good. But check if they were released on Japan first)
YS III and origin: Both in japaneses *crys*. The YS III has a translate for PC.
Legend of heros: all in japaneses -_-'' ...
Chrono Cross: if saving one world isnt enough, why not 2 at the same time? Nice Plot, lot of twists, tons of characteres and a non-linear history (of sorts).
Breath of Fire IV: my favorite.
Atelier Iris: Another trilogy.... for alchemist fans.

And better I stop from here.
Still the best games are old generations ones (for GBA/Snes/etc).
