Proprietary anti-virus/anti-spyware software will often find things that free software misses....
    Spy Sweeper is anti-virus and anti-spyware....it's 20GBP for a year's suscription...
Small price to pay if you ask me....

AVG is one of the most highly rated AV software out there, regardless of free/paid. Norton, on the other hand, is paid and probably THE most crap.

2099?! You must of got a keygen or something aye? Because paid licenses don't last THAT long. My friend has Ad-Aware Professional 2007 and it expires 2049.

NOD is a good anti virus used along side a decent firewall like outpost (dont slow pc down). Avg is the best of the free ones (although arent all antivirus progs FREE! ;)). i use zone alarm full suite, great program ,have full control over every aspect of your security unlike something like Norton where it has control over you!

I personally use NOD32 business edition (I run Windows 2003 server so don't have a whole lot of choice) and Sygate personal firewall (the one before Symantec bought them out) and have never had any problems. They do their respective jobs quietly and efficiently and I'm rarely aware that either of them are running.

Reviving this thread because I have a question. Is it possible to use two anti-virus programs at the same time? I heard that they conflict with each other and your system does not get protected properly and could get damaged. But i've also heard that it is possible as some will catch viruses that the other misses. I am using Bit Defender Total Security 2008 and have never had a problem or a virus it hasn't found, but was considering getting AVG as well, to be on the safe side. So my question is would that be a good idea? Can the two work simultaneously without causing any errors or problems?

Yes, they will conflict. Basically they will find viruses in each other's quarrantine areas and try to fix them, then the other will complain because the file has changed or disappeared.

Thanks Loonylion, makes sense. Would the same go for anti-spyware programs even though my bitdefender has anti-spyware already? Logically it should...

depends if the antispyware quarentines stuff or not. I would say no it wouldn't cause a problem.
