Take my advice, if you do end up starting to learn,

START KANJI AFTER YOU LEARN EVERYTHING ELSE.

If you're not dedicated enough, once you hit Kanji, you'll want to quit straight away.

    Yes, ma'am.

    [me=light]goes under Peach's sheets.[/me]

AWESOME. The peach smell is back!

    What's so bad about Kanji?

Can you memorize these characters, Stan?

    ^All Kanji.

Those are just the basics, there are a WHOLE LOT more where those came from.

Their almost the same as Chinese. I can handle them.

Actually, Kanji are Chinese characters used in modern Japanese, or something like that.

Well, I for one can't.....so yeah.

Plus, there's a shit-load of characters to learn.

I never have enough will-power to continue learning though. :p

3/4 of these are the same as chinese. Easy.

Since I study chinese at school, and am decent at it.

I absolutely hate complicated characters, or complicated anything for that matter.

I once had Mandarin during 2nd grade.

The only subject I failed during that grade.

This is how I learned kana ( Hiragana and Katakana ) :

    Hiragana Drag-n-Drop
    Katakana Drag-n-Drop

Just as the title says, drag and drop. I suggest looking at a picture first, though.

    Basic Hiragana chart
    Basic Katakana chart

I disagree. Kanji can be difficult, yes, but it'll be a lot easier learning actual Japanese when you got some kanji out of the way. ...I can't even explain it right now. My mind is completely jumbled. I'll just edit this later for better explanation. It's suggested to learn kanji before going straight into the vocabulary part.

    - - - - -

[me=PeachMilk]feels proud she can read all of those now except a couple of the common names. And "green".[/me]

You just need to practice. A lot of kanji look like pictures. For example:

    The kanji for "eye".
    In Japanese: me (m-eh)

It actually looks kind of like an eye. Since there aren't "round" kanji think of it as a square eye. The middle is the iris.

Sorry if I'm confusing. I suggest checking this out when you completely master the kana. Don't. Rush.

    Remembering the Kanji Vol.1 (PDF)

Shoot, I learned more from that book in one day then I did in two weeks of trying to memorize the kanji.

If you want more internet references in the future, feel free to ask me. I have plenty.
Smart.fm is a good place to learn vocabulary, too. Don't worry about that right now, though.

It's frustrating, but if you really want to learn Japanese, you'll pull through.

I AM DEFINITELY SAVING ALL THOSE LINKS.

    Might be useful incase.

And, Stan, better take Peach's advice.

    SHES A FUCKING EXPERT.

By the way Peach, since you're so good at Japanese, are you able to play Japanese games, and understand them?

I'd probably learn Japanese the right way. Burn money on courses

That way, you'll be able to play Japanese games without the need of an English patch.

Which was actually one of the reasons I started learning.

I'm really not that good at Japanese. I'm probably making myself sound better than I actually am.
I do play Japanese games. Played all four of the Higurashi series. Though the 6th grade kanji was a pain...

I used to translate some scenes from there and some of the Higu manga, but gave up due to not being as good as I should be to do so.

Also, if you have an Iphone/Itouch I suggest getting SevenSwords. You can play on an American, or a Japanese server. Japanese server has quite a few kind Japanese folk who are happy to converse with you.

I was talking to some guy today on there and when I asked

    アメリカの音楽が好きですか?
    Do you like American music?

The answer instantly was "LADY GAGA" and "CHRIS BROWN" from quite a few Japanese folk.

    ... ::)

...My bad for taking it seriously. ::)

    - - - -

I'm going to refuse because one: I SUCK at translating songs. SUCK at it. I've tired quite a few and I just can't do it. I get too frustrated.
Translating can be pretty hard to do. I respect those who do.
Two: ...I can't even keep up with them.

I can tell you what the title says, though? ::)
