that is naive. If no-one paid to be entertained then no-one would do the entertaining.

I pirate because I'm a cheapskate. Most games were around $60 last time I checked and I'm not wiling to pay that much.

Out of the many reasons why I pirate, there are a few 'legit' ones that are actually specific cases.

My most specific and 'legit' reason to pirate is probably Wii Sports Resort. The game is always bundled with a Wii MotionPlus accessory and if you already have the accessory (or you have enough of them already), then there really is no need to buy another accessory that you don't need. There is no option to just buy the game without the accessory. And that's why I just downloaded it instead.

My second 'legit' example is Wii Sports (yeah yeah I know what you're thinking...what is wrong with this dude and Wii Sports?) My sister was the last person to play it and lost it so I had to download a game that just about every single Wii owner has and to my surprise someone actually uploaded it on TPB. So for lost games, I guess this is 'legit.'

My main reason is basically that out of the many things that I pirate, only about the top 3% I'd actually give an A while the rest are B quality and below, and those are worth a rental at best.

You can do it yourself ::)
    You know what you like.

If you truly believe that you're a naive fool. Making a modern game is incredibly complex and even if you do make one, you won't get as much enjoyment out of it yourself as you already know pretty much everything about it. Also, since I've studied how to create games, computer games have become less enjoyable as I can see how everything was done, so it seems less real. I know people doing film studies who say the same thing about films.

    That's YOUR opinion. Not mine.

Myself reason is same like yourself. Not a lot of money... do they think everyone can afford over priced stuff?

Also, I like to collect software and data. Pirating is good and fast way to do that.

Though, If I do support something fully I'll pay for it. If I can afford it. Oh well, you're not exactly stealing are you? Just copying stuff. That's how I like to think of it.

I don't have the money to buy all the games I want to play. So I buy games when I have money. Else I just download them.

well, to be honest its just too expensive
you know how much a new copy of windows xp cost new!, well do ya!, nothing less than $80.
    A new PS3 game $50.
(ha!........this is funny, i kinda sound like a mastercard commercial)
Pirating $0, for everything else money can't buy theres mastercard XD

WTF is up with the prices are you kidding me, take my kidney while your at it.
have you seen how much the adobe programs cost!

    (where i stand on piracy)
try it out, if you love it (a good example of something for me is Metal Slug Anthology, a classic among others)....then just BUY it.

I used to use adobe premiere pro (eventually ended up with a legal copy that came free with some video hardware I bought). Shortly afterwards I pirated Sony Vegas and man was I glad I didn't pay for premiere. Vegas is much cheaper and far superior in almost every way. Half the features of premiere pro were out of bounds because attempting to use them was guaranteed to crash the program.

I don't think that gives you the right to pirate. Just buy the game with the accessory and then sell what you don't want.

"Having enough of them already" isn't a proper reason.

Also, I see piracy as sort of a video game within itself. You have to crack the puzzling AP, and avoid getting caught by the feds/businessmen. Sorta like Professor Layton Meets Metal Gear.

it depends on what you're pirating.

    in games,
i don't care much for games now because games have gotten boring and they aren't that interesting and found other interest other then video games. i also lack the time to play them and having to buy the games themselves would be a waste of money just to play like half to an hours worth of play time. i'm selling nearly all of my 150 nintendo ds games that i have. i only have like 5 ps3 games and i'm planning to get rid of them. the only games i'm keeping are the ones worth keeping, like that of dragon quest 4 and dragon quest 5 for the nintendo ds. currently, i'm interested in hacking my wii so i can play virtual console games not on the wii. for instance, i want to play xmen for the genesis. it is likely that the game won't be on the virtual console because of license issues. so what am i to do?! hack my wii to play the game?!

    in pc,
well, who the hell would want to pay for an actual copy of windows xp or windows vista or windows 7?! windows is a piece of platform software that is utter crap. if there was a way to operate a program without the need of an operating system, you'll see that piracy of windows would decline like hell. additionally, the software for the pc, software not games, are irrelevent to my personal life and there are always and other alternatives that you can get. why is open office the most downloaded software?! because it's the free alternative to windows office. it shows windows office is not an important software, just an accessory and accessories aren't important.

    Arrrghh!!!

btw, the lack of money or no money doesn't really mean it's a negative thing if you pirate. i look around new york city and see people who have little or those who are likely struggling with money. but they seem to buy other materials that are just as costly as that of video games. for instance, nike shoes or name brand clothing. why spend money on other marterials while not the other. what it suggest is that video games ins't a priority for some people because it isn't important. style is often more a priority because looking good is often positive as opposed to a negative. if you own fancy looking clothing but don't have video games, it's cool because you look hip or whatever and others wouldn't care if you'd own video games or not as long as look hip or cool. but if you look like rags but own the best console, people won't give a damn if you own the best console because you look like crap and no one wants to be near crap.
