Please, allow me to elaborate on my previous comment. I am merely stating that one should not take fictional ideas personally, or for that matter begin to think that there is somehow a relationship between a video game and your real life. The same goes for movies, music, and among some other things the media likes to incorporate into our pop cultural societies. This belief or idea that one should have feelings for an actor or character is in my opinion absurd because the directors and developers are not primarily concerned with your personal feelings, more they try to invoke emotions from the audiences or players through dialect or the characters actions. Emotions are what lead to compromised and biased decisions which roots from sentimental attachment to the characters or actors. This notion of the humans mind to fabricate opinions, feelings, and significance from something not real into experiencing an empirical response leads me to believe that conjectures will detrimentally affect a persons life.

miros you contradicted yourself throughout your entire argument. First you basically saying that directors and developers are not primarily concerned with your personal feelings. Then later in your statement you say they invoke emotion from the audiences. Contradication. And from a logical point of view, developers and directors primary concern IS the viewer's/player's personal feelings. The more it plays with your feelings, the more that media sells. Period. That's how the world works. The fact that people embrace those emotions is pretty much what the developers/directors are aiming to achieve. Therefore having yourself get into the emotional depth in the game and get lost in the story merely tells you that it was made well. If you believe otherwise then you are either not human, or have been raised to believe emotions are bad. I do however agree with the section on your first statement that it may become an obsession. That is known as role-playing and happens a lot with kids. As you get older that normally wears off but in a few people it doesn't. It's nothing serious to be honest, but if it starts to affect lifestyle then perhaps a few therapy sessions would be recommended. But remember its these kinds of people that have brought us some of the best games, anime and movies ever made.
