Edit : i checked rhapsody a musical adventure and i second that it is that game (sad face its not elebits)

you can check the trailer it matched your description (3 people , trumpet , prince , characters on top screen and battle play on bottom)

i really doubt it was hacked J rom because it was in chinese and where i got it from was a site i forgot too and the name but it didnt say was hacked... but my friend had the rom too and said that his father downloaded it for him, but he moved away so i cant really contact him

 

bumping this because I'm dying to know what this game is now. So if I have this right, it has a horn icon, you battle very cute monsters 3x3 and it's none of the aforementioned games. Hmmm...
