No, you need correction as well :p

Filipino "IS THE" language of the Philippines, albeit it is mostly founded or came about from Tagalog. You see the Tagalog you "may" be using if you are from Manila is NOT pure Tagalog, that is Filipino. If, however you are from Bulacan or Batangas, then THAT IS Tagalog.

I know it may be confusing to you but let me explain:

The language spoken in the metro is not pure Tagalog, it is a conglomeration of Tagalog (the most part) & "borrowed" words from regional languages (example, Katarungan, from "Matarog" which is Visayan for "a just, or righteous person), Spanish (Hustisya from the Spanish word "Husticia" or in English Justice), English (such as "bolpen" from "Ballpen" or more precisely a "ball point pen") & other Foreign Languages (example mama-sang, which means a female pimp, a negative derivative created by Japayukis yet another term which was brought on by Filipino entertainers who work/ed in Japan).

So you see, though what we use sounds Tagalog, it actually isn't, remember that there too are "native Tagalog" words that refer to things we call by a borrowed name. As an example, the word "silya" which was a derivative from the Spanish word for chair (Ciila or silla) has a native translation in "Salumpuwet" literally "Butt catcher" in English.

Also, if you base it in our country's laws & Constitution, Filipino NOT Tagalog is the Primary Language of the Philippines with English a non-definitive second language. This according to the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines:

    http://www.chanrobles.com/article14language.htm

Well actually, in the earlier versions of the constitution Tagalog was the national Language, but it was revised several times, because most Cebuanos (at every time the Constitution was revised) ARDENTLY WILL NOT ACCEPT Tagalog as the National Language seeing as they too believe their language (Cebuano) is also at par with Tagalog, & it is seeing it is one of the ten recognized Languages in the country, these being:

    Tagalog
    Kapampangan
    Ilocano
    Pangasinense
    Ilonggo
    Bikolano
    Cebuano
    Hiligaynon
    Tausug
    Waray

So, yeah, before you correct someone out, make sure your facts are straight 8)

And if you're wondering, Linguistics was my course in college & Wikang Pilipino (Languages in the Philippines) is my Masters Degree course which I will hopefully finish this March :)

Oops, I forgot, I can speak:

Tagalog (BulaceƱa Tagalog as I know several Bulacan exclusive Tagalog words)
    Filipino
    Kapampangan
Ilocano (I know several Ilocano words thanks to my friends)
Waray (not really, but I know how to curse in Waray A_A)
    Japanese (poorly though)
    English (well d'uh :p)
Chat, SMS & L33T (though I hate it with a passion)

    I can speak:
English (Fluently. It's my native tongue, after all)
French (Basic. I took a one year class back in 8th grade, and have yet to go into the advanced class)

Once I've become at least a little fluent in French, I want to try and learn some Spanish.
