Most people who claim to know Japanese don't know it and just picked up a phrase or two from anime. Weeaboos. Except gavilatius. He seems legit.

    English is my native language.
I can speak Mandarin Chinese, but I can't really read or write it.
I took Spanish in school for 2+ years, but i am not fluent in it, of course.
I am currently learning Japanese as my foreign language selection in school. I still haven't finished my first semester, so I can't really claim to know it. Half the vocabulary is just English/Latin loanwords, so if you know katakana, you're pretty much set for a large chunk of the language. For example...

    ドイツ (doitsu) - Germany
    アメリカ (amerika) - America
    パン (pan) - bread
    テレビ (terebi) - television
    クリスマス (kurisumasu) - Christmas
    オレンジ (orenji) - orange
    ピンク (pinku) - pink
    スポーツ (supootsu) - sports
    バスケットボール (basukettobooru) - basketball

Also, don't forgot that if you post anything in a non-English language, you must provide an English translation.

I thought it was a dialect, "tagalog", as I could have sworn my mother mentioned it...but I might have been (as I am now) half asleep :(

    Tagalog (native language)
    English (second language)
Latin (really really simple sentences in limited tenses. I haven't even memorized all the declensions yet)
Portuguese (had to take it last semester. Again, very basic stuff, like saying asking people if they've seen my toy or ordering at a restaurant haha)

I really want to learn Spanish, French and German... but not until I master classical Latin (five, ten, twenty years from now?).

    English (first)
    Irish (native but practically unspoken)
    French (learning it in school)
    Spanish (only a few words)

In school in Ireland we are made learn Irish. I know it's heritage, but only like 9% of Irish people use it as a first language. Plus, i'm not even that good at it, after 10 years of learning it so far XD

someone tell me something and i'll say it in Irish for a laugh :D

    English.

I sometimes wonder if everyone else is just making funny noises and pretending it's language - when I'm not listening they all just speak English. That would be my paranoia speaking.
