Windows 7 is pretty much a lightweight, almost fully optimized Vista.

    Nuff said.

a computer is only as fast as the hardware it has in it... software has nothing to do with it's speed

Actually vista disproved that. Bad software can slow it down a lot.

well yes, intensive software can slow down your computer, but that doesn't mean the computer itself is slow, it would still run fast on another operating system

but yes, I should of been more clear on how I said the statement before

it doesn't have to be intensive, just badly written.

My favorite OS right now is Snow Leopard. I will have to try Windows 7 before I make any final decisions.

I'll make the choice so you don't have to.

    Snow Leopard > Windows 7

I use vista on both of my PC's. I'd like to switch to XP on my laptop, but my desktop is an uber-beast so it runs it fine.

Software does nothing, it is what processor, videocard, that things you have. Its called ''Hardware''.

I'm running Windows 98se with custom Service Pack 2. I've had better results doing this than XP, Vista or 7.
Tho I do like 7... I have it installed on my family computer not my personal. Personal I'm running 98se. I like being able to use MS-DOS it's a life savor some times.
