Although I haven't played any DS Final Fantasy games, I have to say my personal fav is FFVIII. Hands down one of the best stories and for every character i can find somone I know personally that can mirror them (for Irvine there's at least 3 people). ;D

ffiv is a classic. Tho i didn't play the NES (i wasnt born when it was released) i play the GBA and it was wow. First FF i played was FFTA then i had FF1 and 2 dawn of souls (from the emulator hehe) but it was boring and then i played ffiv. damn that was a story so sad tellah went to avenge his daughter and meteored golbez and died :(

currently playing ffvii very nice game and ffviii. FFTA is also a must play simply because its not a linear RPG like the others are and has a strategy in it.

    It's a tie between FF7 and FF8.

I wouldn't say I'm a Final Fantasy guru but I do find alot of enjoyment from them, FF7 was my first in the series to play and it was what got me into this great series back in 1998 so I have to thank it for that... Its a shame the spin-offs didn't really make me like FF7 any more than I did, though Crisis Core was decent...

Well after FF7, I then played FF8 all the way up to FF12, afterwards I began to backtrack a little and played FFVI, FFV, FFIV, FF1, and FF2 in that order.

What really made me become a die hard fan was when I played IX... I liked the great 'fantasy' feel it gave you which you would expect from a Final Fantasy game...the history is so well developed that it justifies to be played more than once...

Yup 9 was epic (was the first one i played then i was hooked to the series)

7 was pretty awsome too, but man these games seem to rob hours and hours from your life.

Try playing FFXI, it will suck your soul dry and leave your body sheriveled up like a raison. It takes lots of time to do anything in it, even small simple quests....

But hey, I wouldn't be playing it if it didn't...what kind of game would that be? I probably wouldn't want to think too much about it.

I don't really consider XI to be a final fantasy game; IMO an mmorpg just doesn't fit the series. I've never played it though.

FFX is my favourite. ..FFIX a close second. Tactics for PSX is also high up on my list~

That's what got me into furries! A great game indeed!
    Too bad it's expensive..

FF7 waz the best and i think that Square Enix should release a remake for FF7 instead of FFI,II,III,IV

My personal favourite is Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift. I didn't really get into the main series, I'm more of a tactics fan. ;D

It seems as if someone starts one of these "Best Final Fantasy" threads at least once a month somewhere in netdom and it usually comes out the same way.

The oldtime console gamers will say the cartridge based FF's i.e. Final Fantasy 2 and Final Fantasy 3, with 2 being the more popular overall.

The latercome console gamers will inevitably gush about Final Fantasy VII or any of the other Disc-based sequels without any mention of the previous cart-based versions which indicates to me they've never played them or cared to play them.

I felt FFVII gave it a good go, but the blury and small polygon character graphics, the annoying still perspective shots while you moved your character and the hack on the number of simultaneous in-party characters from FF2's 5 and FF3's 4 to a pathetic 3 was lame. The constant disc accesses didn't help either. The 'urbanization' of the characters and world and the focus on a more younger player-type didn't help either. It pretty much killed the FF franchise for me and I haven't played another since.
