I always hear people complaining about vista but i dont seem to have any issues what so ever with mine.
hell im running ultimate on 1gb of ram dual 3.2ghz processors and a nividia geforce 7600 (possibly 7800 van't remember off the top of my head) i mean i dont try to game on it much and i dont run anything severly challengeing but still it has had 0 freezes 0 crashes as a result of me running vista also i the entire layout actually makes a lot more sense than xp or below it just seems weird at first as you can't find anything.

Of course there are some compatability issues with vista as most things dont work as well with it but thats just how technology goes and anything i found that didn't work seemed to already have a new driver online that fixed all issues so if anyone asked me i would reccomend it for a new computer but unless you really want a fancy new look and a movie as your background it isn't worth upgrading untill you need to.

I've had 0 freezes and 0 crashes on a computer thats been on 24/7 for months, and it's still blazing fast. And no, it's not windows vista.

My laptop has a 2.4ghz core 2 duo processor, 4GBddr2 ram, about 380GB hard drive, and soon to have the NVidia 8600M GS 512 ddr2 graphics card. The fact that it has Vista Home Premium though is making it feel worthless though, since I try to go into some of my folders only to have a "Windows Explorer is not responding" message to come up in my face.
Slightly off topic but does anyone know how to fix this?
    ??? ??? ???
I will probably get a high end gaming machine when I'm at uni next month... with XP ;D
Next time anyone here spots Gates, give him a bitch-slap

i still believe that was a master blow by microsoft. making a very resource hungry os will make people want a new and more powerful desktop/laptop, therefore (somehow) giving more money to bill gates's pockets.

but happily that was frustated, as vista is way too resource hungry, so people prefer the xp os.

i, myself, dislike vista os, maybe because i've been too attached to xp os, because most of the upcoming games are xp os only, or work better on xp os, because many existing softwares that i use are not yet compatible with vista os, or because i don't see anything i really want working on vista os and nor on xp os, making xp os way better for me.

I have been running Vista for a good 9 month (3200+, 1 gig ram, 6600GT (2Gb and 8800GT in the last month)) and I am have no complaints about vista other than i needed to upgrade my ram to play the witcher (although that upgrade was due for a while now).

Overall it is more stable than Xp, as crashes in one app have a much smaller effect on the whole system. I have faced one driver incompatibility errror before and that was fixed in a month, and I am finding that compatibility mode is running old games that XP compatibility mode wouldnt boot.

well vista has its problems but it seems like people werent aware of the problems of 98 or xp? remember how we had to update in order to keep our systems from failing. those were the days. well here we go again hopefully before the next windows this OS will have all the bugs worked out and all the problems people mentioned will be resolved for the most part. then everyone wont want to switch to windows 7 and stay with vista. its a shame but it is an inevitability.

Alot of people are afraid of change though, it's like me throwing away my Gameboy color...it was purple too.. or My DS breaking... my first one... I didn't like the feeling of the new lite, but I bought one, but I like the DS Relic, it's just easier to hold...I miss it :'(

it's the functionality of the system, it asks a lot and gives a mediocre performance. remember ME, are people still using that btw. anyone know what happened to ME.

you should read the os wars on pc magazine i believe. the article compares 4 os's [leopard, ubuntu, xp, vista [leopard won btw]]. somewhere in the article mentions cost, and windows is expensive and mentions that most users don't often buy their windows os. with that in mind and with vista having severe drm, it forces you to actually buy the damn thing so you don't get some drm problems. but then again you'll more then likely will get them even though you bought it, it is microsoft you know.

the one thing i would like to see is a dx10 space shooter game, like darkstar one or freelancer in a dx10 system.

graphics cards don't have directx, sound cards do. i just noticed that now. :p

well, i think that's partially true. bill gates will do to with windows 7 what he did to windows vista: a kind of innovative os, but very resource hungry. people will notice that, and they won't switch to windows 7.

BUT, your sentence is partially true because people will stay with xp, not vista. :p

actually directx handles both sound and video. Directdraw and direct3D are for video, DirectSound and DirectMusic are for sound. Apart from in DX10, which no longer has directsound.

there are rumors that dx 10 maybe the last dx to ever be released by microsoft because developers are able to eliminate the need of what dx typically do.

btw, there is an article of this on tomshardware, i wish i saved it and posted here on this page. it was a nice read, but i didn't fully get it because they were talking about graphics stuff and were beyond my general understanding. they were mentioning of the idea of engines.

i never listen when they say it the last because everything can always be improved on and even if they don't do dx11 ect there will be a dx a,b,c,1.1,1.2,1.3 you get what i mean
