Very many Hindus will never eat beef, for many it is because the cow is considered a sacred animal, for other Hindus beef is considered simply a poor quality meat, in the same way that the Jewish and Islamics consider pork to be of poor quality. For those Hindus who would not normally eat beef, an exception can be made on medical grounds. (I will mention Ayurveda(Hindu medicine) once more in this post but I would rather not get drawn into the details, that would not be fair on the OP or the thread.) There are 4 main branches to Hinduism each of them have different ideas about what is good to eat, the most liberal of the 4 branches is Shaktism(Goddess worshipers). There are also many sub-divisions within the main 4 branches of Hinduism and some(a minority) of Hindus regard the eating of human flesh as OK but only if recommended by a doctor. This is obviously a very rare occourence and most Hindu's would be appalled by the very idea. The popular Hindu(Vaishnavite) vegetarian diet which includes milk and eggs(and fish in coastal areas) is a very healthy diet. Though the use of ghee(clarified butter) can cause problems for westerners who want to make a change from a standard meat centered western diet. For those who would like to make a change into vegetarianism, but dislike the harsh rules of modern western vegetarianism this Hindu diet is balanced and full of flavour, however ghee should be used in moderation for a year or so to enable the body to correctly adjust to a low fat intake. Hinduism is a broad church(even atheism is accepted) there are Hindu's who eat stupid amounts of meat often accompanied by stupid amounts of violently spicy chili peppers. Try this recipe: Khoorgi Pork Pork enough to serve 4 ghost chili (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naga_Jolokia_pepper) You will need 102 peppers(to serve 4) (You can use Dorset Naga chilies(fresh from the UK) as a great substitute, only problem with this is that Dorset Naga's tend to cost allot(102 fresh chilies will cost about £40), get a dried version of the original chili instead.) Cook the pork until tender in no oil over a low heat. Smash the chilies to split the pods but do not pulp them. Do be careful that any chili bits do not get in your eyes. Add the chilies to the pork and cook for a further 10 mins. Serve with Greek style yogurt. Eat. Some people with heart problems may die, please do be careful if you cook this, also a gas mask during cooking is advised. At the very least you should cook this outdoors or with a good airflow in the kitchen.
102 peppers seems like a lot for just four servings of pork. That wiki page says those peppers are 2 to 4 inches long, and an inch wide. It's like you aren't really eating Pork, just eating peppers.
Meat is economically irresponsible, tastes like rotting flesh (because it is), and is of course, murder. Edit: Sorry about the necropost, didn't realize this was that old.
Meat is not rotting unless it is rotting. Just like bread isn't rotten, cheeses are not rotten, yogurt is not rotten. And isn't murder, just killing. Murder is by definition an inhumane or barbarous killing. The instant death methods used in modern slaughter houses reduces pain and is considered humane.
Considered humane by who? And such regulations aren't exactly stringently enforced, and in some cases, like that of the Chicken, there are NO regulations on how you are allowed to murder them.
because they are FOOD!!!! if you eat them, you shouldn't really care how they're killed... only prepared to eat
But I don't eat them, because that is inhumane. Similar to holding slaves or subjugating women. Might isn't always right.
Considered inhumane to who? As for meat vs veggies. Well, it's only a matter of opinion. There's somethings you get out of meat and veggies, nutrition wise. wat.
The most common argument I hear from an omnivore on a day to day basis is, "animals don't have rights" The same mentality that lead to the enslavement of Africans, and the male-dominated society that we are still feeling the effects of to this day.
havn't you noticed, food animals that don't show you human affection (dogs and cats show you some human affection... love, jealosy, empathy, etc.) most of these base food animals (cows, chickens, pigs) don't really care where they are, besides they're fed, they have shelter, they have company... thats being humane to them, i'll admit that kfc has a punting problem but hey people eat them... who really cares, as long as they're non-dieased, then i'm all for it.
Ah. I believe that animals have rights. Although different rights to humans. As much as I love animals. I don't really think they're on an equal level to humans, as some people do. They're on the same level of importance but otherwise, no. There's a reason why there's a food chain, the animals on the top aren't equal to the ones on the bottom. Humans are essentially animals with conscience.. I don't even know where I'm going with this. Meat is meat, animals eat meat aswell as we do. I don't really know how to describe what I'm thinking and I don't think I'm writing down what I'm thinking properly, but it won't change anyone's mind.
