I'm sort of surprised that no Australian on this site hasn't made this topic yet, the movement for an 18+ game rating in Australia has picked up steam and hopefully it will finally get passed, go here to learn more

Unless all of you guys have a job, and pay taxes and bills, all of you shouldn't be treated as adults.

To me, this is nothing more than minors (and children) just wanting access to adult-only rated games. Can this proposition be any more stupid?

Pretty much this, except that Australia is confused on ratings, and an Adult rating isn't the same as one in the US. If games with an M rating in the US goes to Australia, i think they have to edit it so it can meet the 15+ or whatever rating, like they had to do with L4D2, don't quote me on that though, since i don't think they censored CoD at all, well, no one ever talks about it, only the L4D thing.

they'll always be little kids who get their hands on mature games, the point he's trying to make is that adults should at least have the option to buy those games without the threat of being arrested for having them, they can be arrested and fined or even thrown in jail for having them.

If they wanted to be treated like adult they should act like one.

This is world news because this guy just started this movement this month I wasn't trying to start a debate about the morality of the rating, I was just trying to inform people about his protests and such
I also just found out that it was featured on quickjump just a few days ago so if you want to learn more you can go there as well as his blog which i have already posted a link for.

I feel bad for all of you Aussies. I think having to pay $60 plus tax is mind-blowingly expensive for a game, I can't imagine having to pay import prices on items your government has obnoxiously chosen to ban.

60 dollars plus tax is what I pay for video games in Canada. Anywhere but North America gets gypped when it comes to pricing for video games.

$60? No, no, that's far too cheap. Here, we pay (well, those of us that do, anyway) up to $100 a pop. Back in the early days of the X360, some games sold for as much as $120, dunno if they still do.

Yeah games here in Australia are far too expensive already, and the fact that games such as Left 4 Dead 2 get heavily edited and censored compared to the versions released everywhere else in the world is really unfair.

I'm 21, I work full time, I own my own house and car and pay taxes, yet it's illegal for me to be able to purchase these games because they're too violent for 15yr olds to play. Honestly if they just produced a procedure similar to that of buying smokes or alcohol where you have to provide ID that you're over 18 before purchasing these games then there would be less of a problem. Sure you'll still have some issues with kids getting their hands on them, but it's not like they'll be able to just go and buy it themselves, they'll need parents to get them, or older friends and family to do so on their behalf.

The other key part to this argument is that games such as GTA4 which just managed to skip the R18 banning in Australia, instead got pushed down to a very touchy M15+ game. If we had an R18+ rating here, they could have labelled the game as such and had no issues at all in releasing it, and it would give a much more accurate rating for the games content.

Violent games are somewhat depend on the capacity of a person to use them. So it shouldn't be overly restricted to adults, we the young and foolish have jobs too, to learn and to try to be successful one day so we can do jobs that we might be better than others. And if a game is displayed as 18+, the game developers has a reason not to be sued, because that means that they classified the game as 18+ and children buy it, it's not their fault, it's the retailers. But in our country, mature and violent games are bought freely by everyone, even by 13 year olds.

Yeh, here in America the restrictions on video games are there but rarely ever followed exstensively. Usually only when violence that might be game related is brought to the public is every rule scrutinized.

but I say make an 18+ rating. Let older people be able to enjoy a game the way it's designers intended.

Y'know what?...Here in my country the game "BULLY" from rockstar games is prohibited, but, do I look like I give a f**k? I just go and buy the pirate version.
So what I mean is, buy/download pirates games from USA, without sensures and all.
