Top 10 non Square-Enix rpgs?

dunno if your aware, but Valkyrie profile and dragon quest are both square enix games

It doesn't make them fit into the RPG genre, though it does make them fit into a sub RPG genre. Bleach the 3rd Phantom is as much a TRPG as final fantasy tactics, castlevania is an Action and or Platformer RPG. Mega man star force, well i realised that it has RPG elements, but is not even close to being an rpg. I removed it and changed my list.

If you'll notice i didn't actually make this topic to have an argument regarding genres. If your looking for an argument and don't have a list to contribute then please go to the spam thread and come back once you've gained the skills and etiquette needed for this forum/The internet

 

Don't mean to be rude but I don't think you can class Castlevania as an rpg. If though you are does that mean I can include Wonder Boy 3:The Dragons Trap?

I don't think Sarah Kruez was lacking in etiquette, and as for skills needed to contribute to "The Internet" what exactly do you mean. Perhaps you should have been more clear about what, to you, constitutes an rpg. I will reserve posting my list until you've made the criteria clear.

You`re talking about skills and etiquette, but setting "Castlevania" into a list of RPG`s. How absurd, honestly. Mirror,mirror on the Wall - that`s all I can tell about that.

EDIT: I was debating over considering Mega Man Legends and modern Castlevania as RPGs, but it makes sense. MML has lots of customizable equipment, shops, a cohesive storyline, and grindable skills that improve with upgrades that you buy. Modern Castlevanias have enemies that drop items, experience points, levels, equipment, etc. They're much like Action RPGs such as the Tales series.

as i previously stated, i didn't post this topic to get into an argument about what an RPG is, if you want to start an argument just go away. And for the person who asks, "what is your classification of an RPG. I define a game where you level up, know the amount of damage you do, have equipable weapons and armour and have skills which consume mp is an RPG. Some Rpgs take these aspects and either improve on them or take them away completely, but most RPGs are like that. For anyone else who plans to post on this topic. Don't bother trying to argue, seriously just stop, think and go away. I'll say it again I did NOT post this topic to get into an argument on RPGs, I started it to discuss them.

Nearly forgot, Zelda is not an RPG ok folks? Its a hack and slash adventure game. I'm not going to argue why, but if you take it to the grave that its an rpg then i really really don't care

Pretty strange really, im noticing that most of the RPG's i like non square-enix are all on the old consoles! I cant really think of a good RPG thats came out lateley on the new generation of consoles that id call classic that wasnt made by Square/Enix!

Only Atlus seem to be the only other real competitor to Square/Enix in the RPG market these days!
