    this happened a few hours ago, russians fired on japanese crabbing vessels in disputed waters, causing 1 death of a japanese fisherman from a stray bullet... those waters have been claimed by both countries for many years starting with the russo-japan war in the late 1800's...

    my question is... "isn't the ocean international waters? and why haven't both sides sign the WWII peace agreement?

    oh... ok, so 200 miles from the coast is national waters and they have the right to defend it.

    You're an idiot. What he's saying is that this area falls under that definition of both countries.

    Seems like the stereo typical sort but not all are like that.

    Any reason why they fired on a fishing vessel?

    Probably because the fishing vessel refused to leave and then it just started escalating. Just another border dispute. Nothing special here. I do love Russian accents though.

    Question, if their is a foreign war vessel inside your territorial water. can you classify it as an act of aggression and declare war due to it?

    Excuse the choice of quote but...

    Shared water...hard to guess.

    WTF didn't they want to leave...and for that matter if the water is shared, why were the russians wanting them to leave?

    Sounds stupid...or there is something we don't know about the fishing vessel...

    [me=hYpNoS]suspects something fishy[/me]

    Maybe they weren't sharing and were both claiming that area was theirs.

    "Disputed". Meaning they're bitching about who owns it. Meaning they all think it belongs to themselves, not to the other.
