actually its your best work so far i really like it

only comment i can make is that you went a bit heavy one the erase but seeing as your not using PS i not sure if you can make your erase in to a light misting.

    but awesome work.

also with the pizza is that your entry for the cheese sig cause its good but not enough cheese :p

    Re: The Signature Thread

This "erase in to a light misting" thing, are you talking about what is around the girl? If so, I used a 'sparks brush' that came with gimp. I put it on a new layer just so I could "colorize" it to kind of match with the background. I'm not entering this one for the cheese contest but, I needed practice and this is the best site so far for giving me the critique I need in order to get better.

Oh and I'm happy you like it. ;)

i'm not very good at explaining myself sorry :D

i thought you had done the bit that now you say is a brush as part of the background and then used the erase function to soften the edges around the girl. but you've now cleared up that you used a brush on top of the character render.

i'm not sure if you can do it with gimp but move the girl to the top layer then use the erase function in spray mode and turn down the opacity to soften the edges of the girl revealing the brush effect you used

if you can do it and you can understand my incoherent ramblings it will look exactly the same as it does now just better

thats actually not too bad mishy :) though a few suggestions...

try duplicating the render (the image of the person in the sig) and blur the bottom using a light blur, then on the one thats on top try sharpening it a little and erasing everything except the head parts (making sure to blend it gradually of course). Thios will give the render much more field of depth, then itll really look like shes popping out.

Also try and soft erase a little more of the background hair and blend really gradually since the bottom of the render looks a little too "cut-off"

apart from those minor tweaks its a pretty good effort.

opac bar doesnt follow through all the way to the side, also text placement isnt so great, a different font wouldnt go amiss either.
what looks like too small scanlines or possibly a halftone on the background looks horrible, its too loud and draws the eye away from the focal point. Also the render is blurry as hell which doesnt help.

    Re: The Signature Thread

I love you Almo! I kind of went heav on the Depth Merge had a duplicate layer, a Cartoonify effect going. I also added a soft glow of some sort, I didn't look bad before I flattened the image...The white line which you speak of, I erased half of it because "I" didn't like it all the way through...The text was something quick because my boyfriend was rushing me off the laptop to check his GoW2 stats... *sigh*...And I'm kind of hung over from my 5th year anniversary... :p :-[ ::) :(

So, I understand it looks terrible. Thank you, next time I won't do so much.

    Re: The Signature Thread

I never knew I formed a reputation as a critic.

As Almo stated, the render is blurry while the background's scanlines are sharp. This gives the impression of a camera focusing on the background rather than the target.

A bunch of my old point and shoot pictures ended up like that. :(

Especially the damn 35mm ones. No wonder my parents didn't like my touching the camera. I fuck up half the roll with defocused pictures or accidental shutter releases.

P.S. Text is kind of hard to read. :p

You know, I want to know your opinions of my sig and avatar that I've kept for months and months and months. I keep burying ones I feel are bad, without any insight as to whether or not mine are good. So, give me your opinions on my sig and avatar from back in the day when I still liked BLEACH.

    Re: The Signature Thread

I used you and Almo mostly as a critic because you are straight forward with it. Second, I always thought your signature and avatar are great. It seems liked you were in brooding mood because of the dark colors. Other than that to me, it seems it fits you perfectly.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

As for me, I'll try and do something else with the same render or do a little less. I tend to rush and pick silly things instead of taking my time like I should, especially if I want to get better. (My boyfriend thinks I shouldn't care what others think as he know it's more of something that is for my creative release.) I think he's right, but me, I think I need the criticism to help me develop better.

Edit: This is the other one I did a few moments ago.

    Re: The Signature Thread

I haven't made a sign in a while, so here's one I did real quick:

Very simple sign, I used drop shadow on the picture of Snake, the background and the text. Created with GIMP.
