Perfect Dark has great multiplayer and the bots feature hasn't been seen in any other game but Perfect Dark (along with Counter-Ops). Perfect Dark sold 2.5 million copies worldwide, that's damn good. I'd call that a success. You can't really compare Perfect Dark's sales to a PC game's sales, considering that the N64 died off and PC games have longer lasting power because you don't get new iterations. Example: Half Life sold near a million physical copies a year since it's release in 1998.

Perfect Dark in my eyes is far ahead of it's time, a lot of it's features aren't featured in shooters even now (like bots, a highly customizable multiplayer function, Counter-Ops, a great objective based story mode and good controls for an N64 game). Goldeneye made devs realize that FPS are a viable genre on the consoles, without GoldenEye and Perfect Dark, you probably wouldn't have Halo and a bunch of other FPS'. GoldenEye made it possible, Perfect Dark made the original idea ten times better.

Halo made it more mainstream but I know a lot more people who played Goldeneye than Halo, might be a generational thing though. I don't ever hear people in real life talk about the first Half Life, or Quake or even Battlefield 1942 (which I admit, I want to play BF1942).

I prefer the console shooters, although nothing will replace System Shock 2 and Battlefield 2 in my eyes, those two games to me are impossible to replicate on the consoles. I'm so damn excited for the Perfect Dark remake on the XBLA, and I'm eagerly anticipating Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the second.

That and the older PC shooters are quite dated, Half Life 1 is boring and a run of the mill shooter (now), Quake is twitch (which I totally hate), likewise with Unreal. System Shock 2 looks absolutely horrible without mods, etc etc.

PC is still the best for FPS.Of course RTS as well.
By the way Natalie,Starcraft 2 beta is way more polished than Bad Company 2 beta.

I don't like Starcraft so I don't care about Starcraft.

    But Dante Inferno is failed.
I didn't ask you to care,i just want to point out that PC still has great exclusive titles and RTS finally got a worthy title.RTS can beat FPS in someways.Just wait 10 years later and we'll see...

    wat

I didn't say that the PC didn't have any great exclusives. I'm aware that Starcraft is good, but I don't like it. And no genre will beat out any other genre, it's all subjective.

I know people who are better at the console FPSes than they are at the PC versions (Halo for instance). In contrast, I'm one of those people that can't use a console for shit and fails miserably every time he picks up a 360 controller but can boast minor competence on a PC. That said, I do like my PC RTS games.

It's all a matter of perspective.

Also, Perfect Dark hasn't been as popular over time as PC shooters simply because it was on the N64 and fewer people owned those back then. I still prefer Perfect Dark to a lot of games - including Halo.

tl;dr Halo isn't as fucking great as everyone says it is (thanks Microsoft hype machine!), it's derived from a lot of games that have previously existed and have been just as popular. So allkratos, make a decent point instead of bouncing all over the place or shut the fuck up, it's tiresome watching you struggle.

Good point, but unfortunantly it doesn't seem to hold true for many GOTY's... Oblivion being the best example, amazing graphics and gameplay but a boring, short main story and TERRIBLE animation and a bland soundtrack.

there is no real answer for this because different genres need different things, rpgs need stories, guitar hero doesnt, it needs sound. racing games and flight sims need realism, not just nice graphics but realistic handling/flying, except racing games like mariokart that just needs to be fun.

of course. i would rather the money go to the story and gameplay than to the graphics. good graphics are always a bonus for me.

Learn about other people's opinion. Although it does have terrible animation.

You missed the "I think it's a better game than most modern RPGS".

Stop agreeing with people, it's like every post I see you agree and that's it, nothing else to offer besides that.

Halo is overrated, it's still a good game though, it's also not as terrible as some people think either.

You always need good controls, because clunky controls can make or break a game sometimes.

That doesn't mean it's a fact. That just means a lot if people think the same.
