    That's if you follow the MDAS rule

    Multiply
    Divide
    Add
    Subtract

    So let me tell you the story behind this equation:

    Back when I was in High school (1992-96), We used to play a game in math class similar to this here game I posted.
    In it we chose numbers between 1-9 (just like here) whick correspond to a "group" number, each group was made up of 3 people per team.

    The Idea was to "rapidly shout out" an equation aimed at an enemy team,then that team ONLY has 5 seconds to react or solve the equation, the team who "misses" their "call" is out then so on.

    In one occasion I shouted " 4 plus 4 minus 4 times 4 divided by 4!"

    Well yeah the answer is 4 that is if you listen to the "order by which I shouted"

    So again:

    4 plus 4 minus 4 times 4 divided by 4

    4 plus 4= 8
    minus 4= 4
    times 4= 16
    divided by 4 =4

    The MDAS rule is standard and will always be used.

    That equation would be written as :

    (((4 + 4)- 4)* 4)/ 4

    The MDAS or BMDAS or whatever else people add to it....(B being Brackets/Parentheses)
    is always used....

    The problems lies with the ambiguous nature of speech...
    BMDAS does not apply to equations when spoken...

    4 *pause* plus 4 *pause* minus 4 *pause* multiplyed by 4 *pause* divided by 4...
    when you say this to someone, they are calculating throughout the equation....
    and thus the equation yields the answer 4...

    4,
    + 4, (= 8)
    - 4, (= 4)
    * 4, (= 16)
    /4 (=4)

    Try to remember writing mathematical equations is different to speaking them...

    I was taught PEMDAS, which includes parentheses and exponents.

    Exponents...I knew something was missing..
    Parentheses = Brackets
    PEMDAS = BEMDAS

    Legend's post was the answer....
    anyways

    [(2^3+2^4-2^2)/2]+(-13)+1x=1

    Find X!

    No algebra. Disqualified.

    1 x 1 - 1 / 1 + 1 + 1 / 1 x 1 + 1 x 1 / 1 = ?

    Remember your order of operations!

    ... it is algebra isn't it...

    Next person get the new equation, I don't want to post it
