I dont thingk your confusing yourself. You do end up going south. You start north, then 3 point turn makes you go south, then U turn puts you back north, then left makes you go west, then turning right makes you go north, then downwards maks you go south... I thingk if by downwards you mean backwards from what you were going before hand. (>x.x)> (your confusion killed kirby)

I agree that it's a trick question, because going backwards is going south

North, then west (three point turn can be either west or east as an result, but for example ill end up west) then east (u turn), then east again then downwards is south down = V (arrow) or if you say backwards is a U turn then it's west.

So the question can be interpreted in 3 different way's which you get this answersnot in order)
-West
-East
-South
