Few games aren't rushed. FF7 was remarkably well put together considering it was rushed and saying that the story was 'crammed down your throat as fast as possible' is laughable in a game with a story that lasts 30-40 hours.

the thing that stops ffviii been top is the junction system
good idea in theory but of course you junction your best magic which means you cant use it or you just get weaker and weaker. this leaves you with the lower level magic but if you can draw the good stuff already the lower magic aint gonna scratch the enemy.

i like the systems in 6,7 and 9 these work great
x and xiii i dont like

I thought the junction system was awesome, really made you think before you used your more powerful magic.

    Re: THE BEST FINAL FANTASY

i never used magic, i just kept it junctioned to strength and let em have it!
saves going all over the place looking to draw more top magic so your character can be in top shape.
apart from the problem i mentioned though i like the junction system.
if you had unlimited use of magic as long as it was junctioned or something similar it would just make the game loads better and take away a boring part.

  9. Re: THE BEST FINAL FANTASY

    i own FFI-X and XII
    10)I
i feel the original is always good. I like how in remakes your allowed to save more often than just at Inns and tents. though i think with no sense of direction it gets hard.
    9)V
The ATB was something good to keep from IV and retaining the jobs was a good choice to give more of a variety of ways to play.
    8)III
I didn't like how japan didnt bother releasing III at all in US until DS release. What i know from the Ds are the job system which like V gives a good variety. The battle system reminds me too much of pokemon and you really need to do alot of level grinding to get through places.
    7)IX
The story of IX was ok to my extent. I feel the ability system was a nice new add on. I was able to teach Eiko and Garnet/Dagger curaga without them having to learn cura so they could heal much more. Although i felt limit breaks werent nearly as great as in all the others mostly because Zidanes the only one with limits and there are no multi hits.
    6)VI
I havent played VI as much as others but so far i feel the game has a good story too it and a good battle system of course retaining IVs ATB
    5)VIII
VIII was the last FF i actually legitimately bought. Anyway the junction system was a nice way to increase stats but the fact that you must stock magic its very limited and its not even all that great. I liked how you can constantly unleash hell with all those limit breaks.
    4)VII
VII by most standards is the best ever but it doesnt reach my number 1 choice. Why you ask? well it has a great story of course i like how new materia can be created so everyone can use it. but i feel the next 3 have better qualities to me.
    3)X
X had a great story and started voice acting which i liked. X was actually my first FF ever played and it gives a nice break from ATB. If you really boost up agility you can have 10 turns to attack enemy before they get one unlike ATB. You're allowed to break damage limit unlike most others. Sphere grid was a good way to power level.
    2)XII
XII had combined that walking around places and fighting at the same time which i liked. They brought back ATB and the new limits or quickening can take time and it doesn't exactly do as much damage as someone with masamune and genji gloves. With gambits if you set them up right the game will go on an infinite loop until you kill that boss.they brought back the damage limit that probably would've bumped this game to number 3 but then international came. they took out damage limit and if you press L1 you can speed up the game which makes this number 2
    1)IV
it was either this or II so i chose IV because it had an engaging story to it. the introduction to the ATB system which had its flaws on SNES. DS version really changed the game and added a new game+ so you can play it again and keep stuff. The augment system made IV better in my opinion and you can even max out stats with the help of augments. auto-battle was a nice new feature though i would like it better if it was more like gambit system from XII but that would make the game too easy so retaining its old difficulty makes this game even more engaging.

The reason why II is not on this list is mostly because of the stat raising.i prefer to stick to leveling rather than this.

    still need XIII of course

    FF9 - best
    FF6
    FF4
    FF7
    FF5
    FF8
    FF3
    FF2
    FF1 - not as best

when it comes to main FFs, for me 1-9 are all amazing games. the ones after are just a little insignificant

    Re: THE BEST FINAL FANTASY

My absolute favorite has got to be FFVIII.
I LOVED the junction system because it actually involved some strategy for junctioning magic. You could actually junction the right combination to have most of the elements be absorbed, as well as guard against some of the worst statuses. Not only that, but stacking stat boosts made all the difference. I never liked using magic in the first place since most monsters were easy enough to kill with just attacking, but the only thing I didn't like is the fact that you would have to drag out a boss fight just to stock up 300 Cures or Shells or whatever, and you'd be SUPER PISSED if you killed it too early and didn't draw the GF. One thing I wish they would re-implement would be the auto level idea where the enemies adjust to your level at a higher growth rate than you. That is, if you sat there and leveled without gaining more powerful magic, the game actually gets harder rather than easier. This requires strategy and to pick your fights carefully rather than grind. This game was simply put, a strategy game, not a go in there and wreak havoc game.

Second place definitely goes to FFIV, same as everyone else, the GBA remake. The DS was a nice revamped, rehash, but the fact that you had to put certain abilities onto certain people to get the New Game+ to come out right, and then do the same thing again to get the New Game++ to come out right got me pissed enough to not want to play it again.

I would say third would go to FFX. It is one of the few games that I have actually COMPLETED, completely, where others are just beaten to the end credits. I liked the story and whatever, but what they needed BADLY was a skip button, especially on the 2nd-10th play through. Even though the game seems linear, there's a ton of goodies that are missed and never obtainable after you reach past a certain point. I'm talking to you Al Bhed Primers! Ugh! #1 reason why I usually have to restart from scratch...

For some reason I'm not fond of FFVI or VII. I haven't played enough of VI to really enjoy it, and the game went downhill as soon as it started to get confusing...It wasn't until Crisis Core that I really understood what the hell was going on...and that was at the very freaking end.

I'm not going into the rest of them because they're just mediocre, even to VI and VII.

And yes, I HATE being a toad in FFIII.

    For me:
    #1 FFVII
    #2 FFVIII
    #3 FFX
    #4 FFXI

I like them all probably just about the same really but I have vivid memories of being a kid and nashing out to FFVII when I should be asleep, played a few of the others.

FFXI was ill, loved the look and feel of it, can't emphasize that enough.

    Re: THE BEST FINAL FANTASY

my list of final fantasy favorites

#1 FF Tactics (ps1) best story period!!! and you can make your own Create-A-Character(s)!
#2 FF 3 (snes) - its got kefka :D gotta love a game with a funny bad guy + the offering and genji glove!
#3 FF 9 (ps1) - Ozma :D good test of skill... name Steiner "B*tch" its hilarious
#4 FF 1 (nes) - make your own party gotta love that, and a hard difficulty you have to love
#5 FF 5 (snes) - job classes are always a bonus! fun !
#6 FF CC (gamecube) - nice change from the rest of the series, really worth a play through

and now the ones i hate
#1 FF tactics advanced both (gba) - bad story, judges are retarded why ruin the game with them?
#2 FF X (ps2) main character is a crybaby, i wish it was just FF blitzball
#3 FF 8 (ps1) stupid story.. honestly the junction system is what kept me playing the game
#4 FF 2 (snes) weapon system was sweet for its time.. it was just lame characters
#5 FF 7 (ps1) just because of the ruby weapon.. gotta love chocobo breeding
#6 FF 12 (ps2) doesnt get more boring than this i cant believe it made it to production i couldnt bring myself to even beat this one
#6 FF 11(pc) they couldnt make it offline>? or LAN? lame lame lame (never played it)

ive beaten most of these numerous times and some of them just once. final fantasy just isn't holding up to what it used to be in my personal opinion, or maybe its because im getting older hahaha
