Hold on; does it have to be a numbered FF? Because otherwise my favourite is definitely FF Tactics(not advance!) followed very closely by FF Crises Core.

Tactics for awesome gameplay, brilliant story and great soundtrack. Crises Core for similar reasons, these two have the best gameplay of any of the FF series imo.

I know I'll probably get killed for saying this, but I really think FFXIII is the best FF game ever made. It really has gone over my expectations to what to expect.

It got rid of some really boring bits, while still keeping the RPG recipe there.

Of course there's going to be haters of the game. But can anyone really like ALL the FF games? Each one of them are so different, and not only with story but also gameplay.

    Re: THE BEST FINAL FANTASY

    Haven't played a lot of 13 yet, but I've been disappointed so far;
    1) Art style is too similar to FFX
    2) ATB is back and makes the game feel slow compared to FFX or FF Crises Core
    3) Leveling up system is too similar to FFX, not a bad thing in itself, but I was looking forward to something new.
    4) No character name customisation, a small gripe to be sure, but I miss it!
    5) Slow to start, at least I hope the pace picks up soon...

    6) Basically, it feels like they were lazy and just combined a load of the other Final Fantasys. Hopefully it's just a matter of me not playing it enough so I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt for now... :)

I don't know about that. I've played for 8+ hours, and I've never been in a battle that has strung on for more then 4 minutes. So I don't think it's made a massive difference.

Heh, i didn't mean battle-length. I like the odd long battle, it's the slight wait for the ATB to catch up on the moves you've input that I was talking about.

You know, one day I'll find someone else who loves ATB. I seriously cannot see where the gripes with it come from, except for impatient people who are used to being able to beat stuff up NOW and not in three seconds.

I loved ATB...10 years ago. Now it's dated and doesn't really work anymore.

Haw can FF9 be like KH when it was released almost a decade beforehand...

    FFT(WOTL) gets my vote.

I easily go with number 7. Lots of sidequest.

Crisis Core had something similar an ATB bar...
    :)
    only that if

FF VIII. Great story, great gameplay, the Junction System, the GF summons... (even if in the end they were pretty useless as summons) and of course the struggle to get the Pulse Ammos for the Lionheart! So many hours spent in Esthar looking for Elnoyles...

well since my first final fantasy was X (I know, I know) I haven't played many of the older titles so I will only list the ones I have mostly played.

    1- VII
    2 - VIII
    3 - X
    4 - VI

this is the use of Triangle key (PS3 version)
so, you don't need to wait that ATB charge up
    and also...
    if you use "haste"
and some equipment that improve ATB speed
or that one that charge the ATB with every single hit
(like one of the weapon of lighting)
you will end having an ATB bar always full...
(sometimes it's also full before you can insert the next moves)
    :)

    Re: THE BEST FINAL FANTASY

Doesn't the triangle key just execute the moves you're bar has already reached? And later on some moves take up more than one slot.
Haste is not something you should have to use and you are without it for most of the game.
Again, the ATB charging equipment is rare, so you're without it for most of the game.
Axis Blade or something I think, even with that I'm still waiting for the ATB to charge, the only time the bar is ever full before I insert my next moves is if I've used an item or a TP ability.

    Re: THE BEST FINAL FANTASY

I loathe FF 7. Square has finally released evidence that 7 was RUSHED LIKE !@#$ just so it could get on the shelves. It shows aswell. People say its emotionally involving, its not... It trys to cram the story down your throat as fast as it can before it runs out of time to show off the characters amazing graphics. My number 1 is 8, purely because its attempts to involve you in the story actually work. When I think of what Squall goes through, I can relate to it, who can't? It's like Bleach Vs Naruto. Bleach is a bit more mature and relatable, Naruto is more for people who jizz when they hear the word Ninja.
