well, if mars's atmosphere is carbon dioxide, all we need is a bunch of trees, water from the poles (mars's) and fertile soil, and furry animals to kill... a couple years later and you got a sustainable ecosystem

it isnt as easy as it sounds..... but back to the topic their human rights should not be taken away...

except its methane, not carbon dioxide.

    Light a match! :D

It might be possible to colonize Mars, but you'd need to create micro-environments (I think that's the correct term, I usually call them biospheres); enclosed areas with trees, water, etc. Then all you need is the sunlight and you have a mini-earth. This would be hard to set up though.

Then just jettison them out of the ship on Mars and let them die.

P.S. Terraforming? My friend and I did a whole science project discussing the possibility of colonizing Mars.

Except one: The right to freedom.

Alpha Centauri might be colonisable and could be reachable in a human's lifetime (if you were to freeze them to extend their life! :p)

A few problems with the Alpha Centauri idea...

Alpha Centauri is a binary star system, not a planet. You can't colonise a star.
Cryogenics has yet to be perfected.
The amount of fuel required to get there would be massive.
Without some kinda faster-than-light travel, it would take more time than it's worth to get there.

I was talking of the earth-like planet in the Alpha Centauri system. I'm not sure if they've named it yet...
Cryogenics hasn't been perfected yet, it's true, but it might not be that far off.
Once a ship is out of Earth's gravitational pull, the amount of fuel needed is minimal as there is very little friction in space so almost no deceleration.
Travelling NLS (Near Light Speed) should be sufficient to get us there inside a decade (I think).
