You'll also want to install freeMCboot so you can run homebrew (EMULATORS and PS1 GAMES) without your discs. It works on your model (lucky bugger...)

    Tute:

    :)

Once you've got that set up, I'll tell you how to play ps1 games with it :D

And, so ya know, you can play ps2 games just with the swap, but that's the one thing you CAN'T do with FMCB (unless you play off of a hard drive or patch every game, and even then compat isn't perfect.

    Also, you got 3.8. okay.

Most normal games work, though some don't. You should be fine.

You can also play these games with it but you need bigger dvds (DVD9):

    Have fun!

And be sure to grab some craaaaaazy imports like Gekibo 2 and Zombie Virus! (AKA Zombies Vs Ambulance)

    Ok.

Oh. And if I were to get a slim PS2, would I just need that swap stuff? And it doesn't matter what model right?
I already have the discs as you know, I just wanted to buy a Slim PS2.

Yeah, sure, but Slims can be a little unfriendly with the CD so be sure to download DVDloader and burn it to a DVD (you can use it to play PS2 CD games with your swap DVD)

You'll also need a minor mod.

For 9000x, you need to mod ONE sensor.

For 7XXXX, you need to mod MANY sensors.

    There's guides online though.

How do I replace the normal ps2 lid with the flip-top lid? Also, what's the difference between my two Swap Magic disks? They look exactly the same.

One says CD-ROM and the other is DVD-ROM. The DVD-ROM is for DVDs and the CD for CDs.

Well I finally got around to trying to do it, but I have a problem. i unscrewed all of the screws on the back and tried to pull it apart but it's not letting me do it all the way and I don't wanna break it. What's wrong with it?

Hmm, your model is SLIGHTLY different than the one in the video...perhaps there's an extra screw you didn't notice? It should come off pretty nicely.

Nope, I took them all out, there was two of those things left that covered the screws though so I took them off but there aren't any screws underneath them.

Well I finally managed to get it apart and I put the flip-top on, it took me a while. It's a bit loose on one side of it though, I broke something. So, what do I do now?

Well, before you do anything more see if the broken part is a serious problem. Try to run a burned PS2 game. If there's any electrical parts exposed due to the faulty installation you might want to wear thin nonconductive gloves when trying this.

    Do this by:

    1. insert your swap
    2. power on ps2
    3. Wait for SM to boot
    4. Open the fliptop lid (disc should not spin) and replace swap with your backup.
    5. Press X to load.

If it works fine and/or doesn't electrocute you :p, I wouldn't worry about what's been faultily installed. As long as you can run your backups you should be pretty good.

If you experience ANY problems using your swap then turn off the console and search for where the vital part is missing from. If it's a piece of the PS2 you've lost, you can probably order a replacement part. If it's just a piece of the shell or something, you can probly just put something in to take the broken piece's place.

best o luck and happy holidays/merry xmas.

Hey Personuser, how do i use homebrew with swap magic (i have 3.6, and a 75XXXX model ps2, i cant remember the rest)? I read your previous post, but i still dont understand. And i dont have a ps1 memory card, do i need that for ps1 games?

Okay, I finally have the time to answer you :p

For homebrew, you'll need/want a COMPATIBLE USB STICK. Known Always Compatible Brands are: SanDisk Known Always incompatible brands are: Kingston. You can put it right into one of the PS2's USB ports easily (finally getting some use out of em, eh ;)) more info at http://psx-scene.com/forums/f19/pen-drive-compatability-list-25559/

before you do anything else, install freeMCboot so you won't have to use your swap to run homebrew all the time. http://freemcboot.psx-scene.com/swapmagic.html

OK, got that in? Good. Now you can install Ulaunch to your PS2 menu as well as emus, or just run them through ulaunch.

Put any ROMs for emus on the Stick. This will be called "Mass" most of the time. You sohuld be able to figure it out from there :D

You need a PS1 memcard to save PS1 games unless you wanna try PS2PSXE (a PS1 EMULATOR for PS2) which is harder anyway. but if you want to: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f164/ps2psxe-public-preview-64878/

I assume you already know how to use PSXlauncher or do cogswap, since you didn't ask HOW to run them :)

sorry for drain the topic but it wouldnt be easier if he sent it to a store and ask said store to chip his PS2? its a popular method on my country to run pirate games, even PSP's have chips

It differs depending where you are.

In the US, there's really not a lot of places that do it, and in japan, a guy got into a HUGE court battle for chipping 360s. Since both Swap Magic and Free MC Boot are legal under the US DMCA, it's the safest way to go.
