Almo to make me a sig that said "CloudBoii12", was dark Blue and dark Purple and had a picture of Cloud Strife on it. He could charge me, say, 500 points because of the effort.

Probably too much hassle to handle all of the point transfers.

 

I know the marriland forums have a point transfer thing.
I don't even know what those points are for anyway, but I've received quite a bit of them from Pokesaving stuff for people.

 

if this site ever explands from games to music or whatever they could always be used for that

also we could have like a dump site where you can put points into some kinda place where people with little points can make requests for games and if it's convincing they get enough points out of it for enough games

I personally don't have much points but I'm not using em because like so many other people only download nds roms

if you use my second idea you could always charge a little for ds games like 10-30 points

 

A little point charge for NDS rom would be good, Premium would be exempt or something.

 

speaking of which, why not charge based on the review or rating?

 

you chould have a limit to the amont for point a person can have stored up like 5000 points or something like that

 

Wouldn't work, as you can buy like 10,000 points for $5 or something.

 

I have 15000+ points (gettting even more since I got premium)

for those that don't know any file under 75 MB is free, anything over then costs points 1 for every MB I beleive)

it would be cool if our points showed up beside our names in our posts so it would be like a repuatation thing

I was thinking those excess points would be awesome if we could play flash games and kinda... bet those points... as currency... >_>

Anyways, intra-site gambling aside, would it be possible to "buy" or "trade" points for Rapidshare or MegaUpload premium service, to kinda speed along the development of that portion of the distribution? I know from other sites that use those services, if you upload massive amounts of files (as admin or whoever) and lots of people leech those connections, that its possible to accumulate premium accounts for the admin's account in RapidShare and MegaUpload... you could practically sell those accounts for cash even, but using points would be better...

The only flaw would be that you would have to have lots of traffic going through those free hosters in order to accumulate premium accts.

Ok corny, I know. More seriously though, there's nothing else you can really do with the points once its there, and this is kinda like a GM of an MMO's blight, precisely how to reduce the amount of in-game currency floating around hehe

How about doubling the required points in order to download anything above 75mb? or perhaps lowering the limit to 60mb? Since people get 50 credits every night, it shouldn't make a noticeable difference unless they're leeching tons of huge files... perhaps a slight decrease in visitors would be the effect?

I think the point system is fine the way it is. Although some alternative uses for points could be interesting. Maybe something similar to a "ipbshop" where users can use points to "purchase" colors or something for their names on the forums and perhaps receiving 2 points per forum post to encourage activity on the boards.

Eh, just a thought.

 

The shop idea has been thrown around a few times and I never thought of it as a bad idea, but it would have to be worked on quite a bit in order to get it to work since the points system is more of a site thing than anything.

I think that giving people points for posting on the forums is a really bad idea in general due to the sort of activity that it would encourage as opposed to the sort of activity we'd prefer.

Why can't we just customize our pages? You know, like when someone clicks on our name in the forum while taking a stroll, and whabbam! a customizable page shows more personality, right?
