Hi i'm thinking of starting a website.
i want it to be mainly a forum.
don't want it to cost a lot of money
live in the uk so a uk server would be ideal

i want it palpabaly to be a popular site too

It depends on the site, what would you be doing? would be hosting files etc?

The basic plan of one.com should be more than enough then.

I'm starting a UK based hosting business, so I will be able to help you soon. Domain names arent necessarily cheap though.

the basic plan that my company is going to offer gives you up to 150MB of disk space, but it is unique in that rather than paying a fixed monthly rate, you are charged a very small amount per megabyte (5p per megabyte, with a minimum charge of 50p) per month. So if you have 20MB of stuff on your website the first month, 100MB the second and only 10 the third month, you pay £1 the first month, £5 the second, and 50p the third. We do not restrict bandwidth unless you use absolutely ridiculous amounts, and just to sweeten the deal im discussing with seph about discounts for RomUlation members :)

a domain name depends on the name, or more accurately on whether it is .co.uk, .com or .net etc. .co.uk is the cheapest

website should be up in a couple of weeks

or you can host your own web server if your internet connection allows you to ;)

Yes, but that also means you can't use your upload much. :)

Personally we run the family website on our own connection (1mbit upload) and our mail too, works fine despite me leeching hard on various torrents.
