i think they just call it like "security deposit" or whatever, but they take $50 from my first paycheck for if i were to do anything bad to the uniform. i get it back at the end, so that's good. still kinda annoying that hersheypark, as big a company as it is, still feels the need to only "rent" uniforms to their employees, but i guess it's whatever since i get the deposit at the end

At least yours are rented. Where I worked you had to buy it from another store on your own and keep it. If you needed multiples then it was out of pocket to buy more. When you stop working there then you're stuck with many of the same outfit that you wont ever wear. -_-"

well, i still need to buy shoes myself. i guess it's a bit reasonable because of foot fungus, but still annoying. they should reimburse people who need to go out and buy new shoes specifically for the job. our options are, if i remember correctly, our choice of either white or tan sneakers. it sucks because i usually prefer to wear black ones, so they'll be pretty much useless come fall, unless i'm hired for next year, too :p

Wait so let me get this straight, you're going to buy a new pair of shoes and then let them be useless and unworn out of preference? Absolutely disgraceful, it's like you don't know the concept of "making do with what you have".

Also it sounds like you guys work at shitty places, I've got a bunch of work shirts I never paid a cent for. Hell, I sleep in one. And I figure, there are some items of clothing that you should have anyway that tend to be a part of work uniforms in a lot of places - I've dated a bunch of waitresses and they all have a pair of black 3/4s and longs wherever they work so it's a worthwhile investment

EDIT: Oh yeah, and wearing sneakers as part of your everyday getup is terrible. Sneakers are for running, get some comfy flats or something.

hey now, i think it's time we address the real crime here. tan sneakers.

What kind of person would wear tan sneakers, let alone mandate them as part of a work uniform?

no, i'm not getting them out of preference, i'm getting them out of being required as part of the uniform. given the option, i'd just as soon stick with my black shoes, but for some reason or another, hershey park makes it that, at least in some parts, your shoes need to be white or tan. i would rather just wear my black shoes and not need anything new, but its part of the uniform. also, the money at the beginning is like a "security deposit" or whatever they call it, so i'll get it back at the end; when it's averaged out at the end of the summer, i won't have bought a uniform. one of my siblings worked there, too last year, and they took her uniform back and returned the money at the end of the season, even though she's working there this summer, too.

You missed my point. If you've got them, wear them. Owning a pair of shoes just for work is a terrible waste of money.

But if they don't need to be sneakers, go buy some Vans Canvas or Chucks or whatever looks nice so you don't look like a total aspie nerd social retard unfashionable guy. Wearing sneakers all the time is tacky. Hell, wearing sneakers outside of exercise looks tacky in most cases.

i'm going to be standing for most of the time, so whatever kind i pick, they'll just need to be comfortable when standing for upwards of 8 hours at a time. when i was hired, they didnt give any full explanation of the outfit, but i have the new employee orientation right before easter, so they'll likely expand on it then.
never said or implied that i was just absolutely unwilling to buy a pair of shoes to invest in work. i just find it odd that they dont supply the shoes

are you really that naive and sheltered that you expect an employer to pay for shoes? you won't last a week

Everyone owns shoes. The only place I ever worked at that supplied me "shoes" was an ice skating rink since I don't own a pair of skates. It's your fault for not having a neat pair of shoes you can wear to work. And you've been ignoring what I'm saying. Buy some shoes that you can wear outside of work as well so it's not a waste of money. I wear my "work shoes" damn near everywhere.

But yeah, I agree with nex, if you actually expect to go to an employer anywhere and say "look, I need money for shoes since I don't have any that fit the bill" you'd be laughed out of the workplace. That's not how the world works.
