    it makes no difference, credit cards are still cash transactions in the retailer's case.

    No, it does make some difference. It's called acceptable loss. In this case Mint doesn't want to hassle the parental units for theirs. So in this way one can be obtained by pre paying an amount of the choosing.
    Thus you know what your limits are beforehand, and thus eliminating overdrafting.

    but retailer recieves the amount in full whether the account is overdrawn or not, therefore in their case it makes no difference. the credit line is between the customer and the company offering the credit card.

    The US has changed that somewhat. Now retailers have to wait for credit to clear, as too many people were going on sprees, overdrawing, then declaring bankruptcy.
    Now, at least here, it's a triangle, and involves consumer, creditor, and retailer.

    It's almost a compliment that you'd go to such lengths to stalk me and save an image of something long removed. I know I'm attractive but you don't need to go so far. <3
