Not a bad idea, but I don't want to graduate one year late from college.

That's pretty weird actually, cause i've recently taught myself how to block out my little sister's voice and just nod or say yes when I hear her pause, probably expecting an answer.
Thinking about it though, I feel really bad - she genuinely thinks i'm interested in what she has to say.
But it's just like when they start talking they srsly never stop and they go on and on...
Bad thing is, she's starting to realise that when she speaks to me it just goes in one ear then comes out the other.
I'm the last person to talk though, i'm that annoying little sister too ::)
    Show off :p
But yeh, pretty much same thing with me. I think it's just luck...
Too late for that now, i've already applied to uni.
I'll only take a gap year if I don't get in and then i'll apply again the year after.

No luck required when you know the material well enough to pull off procrastination like that.

yeah, but with me, the content I risk not revising never comes up in exams.
    BAD SARRA.

Oh yeah. It's gotten to the point in the US, where teachers will and do force groups with students who pass to partner up with students that fail, just to raise the failing student's grade. This has happened to me twice now (I was the passing student, in case you wondered :p)

no, I totally agree with that. That's prolly cause so many people are wanting to go to uni nowadays cause they seem to think that's the only way they'll get a good job - which is a load of crap, but anyways, that means universities have to raise their standards. There was so much pressure on me to get 5A's at higher and I think that may have been why I fucked up.
And now my chances of getting into med are low.

There's a culture of pushing people into universities to get degrees, whether or not they'll actually be beneficial to that person, because of the fact that to make more than minimum wage it's almost necessary to have some sort of tertiary qualification. This does tend to result in people getting BAs (or in the case of America, Sociology majors). I'm finishing my study/gap year in a couple of months and applying for an Engineering degree, but a lot of people I know that are at university are taking moderately useless degrees. Mostly BCom and BA.

tl;dr too many people are going into universities because they won't be able to get a decent job otherwise

Education has become so important, that now we are focusing on it too much throughout the world. Why does it matter if the person got a 4.0 GPA in high school (highest Grade Point Average at least where I'm from for you non-US people)? Who says that means they'll do well in college? Then you have the exact opposite. That "failure" of a student might be one of the best people for the profession they are pursuing.

Many with college degrees can't even find work now anyways. A college degree isn't exactly the golden ticket people try to make it out to be.

A college degree isn't magic, but it certainly is a huge factor in one's future. Especially in this economy, it is near impossible for someone to survive in New York City without an advanced degree or a spouse to help with bills. You could also work two jobs, or get a very cheap subsidized apartment. The cost of living is that high in my city :/

thats why, in a nexist society, uni's will be solely for those who deserve it. no more fucking geography degrees.

But I thought being able to locate every country on a globe would take me so far in life!

lolwut? globes are such a 20th century way of thinking. you do realise that the earth is flat, right?

Suiseiseki, that does seem to be the case. Also, people here go just for the sake of it. I feel like there are some people who collect useless qualifications and stay in uni for most of their lives.
I don't think what i'm saying makes sense. I can't quite get across the point i'm trying to make.
Anyways, suiseiseki, what type of engineering are you interested in studying?

Don't worry, I got the gist of it and replied kinda badly. As for me, Software Engineering is the field of choice.

Gah! My mini-rant comes back to haunt me!
A "revolutionary" lady on the train spent minutes explaining to me why I was ignorant about the world being round.
I didn't say much, as she was clearly senile.
