I'll have a melee weapon with me, the sword is GREAT to mow down swarms, but I always have a better gun, I only use melee to get the stenches off me.

I got the achievement for killing stenches (comon infected) with ALL melee weapons >=)

 

Not gore,reduce vision = Special infected attack you without you knowing

When there's a horde of them right in front of you, destroying them with melee is a nice satisfaction. :

I can always depend on the AI :
They always can see hidden enemies where I can't
