The way its looking now with the price drops and the slim coming out its going to be hard to find one with the holidays coming the older models are sold out everywhere in local shops here.
I doubt it's the golden age of the PS3, and if you really want a backwards compatibile PS3, just buy a 60GB one and shove a 250GB HDD in there. Then it works fine, you have PS2 and PS1 compatilbilty and you don't have to buy a slim, and you saved yourself probably £30/$45
Sony is actually still losing money with the slim. Sony losing money on Slim - Kotaku Also Japanes retailers are only making a 7.40$ profit on them. Neat?
Most companies usually lose money with console sales, it's the software that they make the money back on. It's not until late in a systems life that the manufacturing costs are low enough that profit can be made on hardware sales.
