I'll be flame for this. The answer is NO because NDS is still active. Sure I have a supercard but if you ask me to buy games I'll be paying 40x more compared to Japanese or American gamer. I buy games for "eye candy" like Castlevania and Final Fantasy :)

There you have it, a person who doesn't seem to be a dedicated gamer, imagine, buying "original" game software just to flaunt it. And what's worse, NO ONE REALLY CARES IF YOU HAVE THE LATEST OR THE LEGIT game, especially here on RomUlation where people admit to free gaming lol!! :p :p :p :p

Seph already said this multiple of times, Romulation is not a solution for piracy, but mearly serve as demo center for people to try the game before buying.

The sole purpose of Emulation and roms are preservation.

NDS IS STILL IN BUSINESS. No matter what you say to Nintendo (especially you fagster) they will ignore YOU. A dedicated gamer? Quit fooling yourself. A real " dedicated gamer" is the one who cares to its developers and companies, keeps the artboxes and manuals like a bible (lol). They (the developers) eat, sleep, sh*t and send their children to universities. They deserve our money :)

With regards to Sony well they are in deep sh*t with the sales of their consoles, some sort of "karma". It's ok we have DarK ALex around because my UMD drive is "unrepairable". :)

anyway this is only my opinion wanna know more just google my nick ;)

Cahos - you don't care because you jackoff all day in front of your 2 cores under the hood. hahaha I can tolerate your other "file-sharing" activities but when it comes to pirating video games. It's a big NO. and besides video games is your LIFE. Like I said the PS2 emulation is just a dream even in Nepalem or Fusion.

or you can just send it to a shop to fix it.

Not everyone can afford to keep buying video games. I myself live well below the poverty line in my country, and that is compounded by having university fees to pay (as well as paying for overpriced accommodation). Romulation helps people like me because we can try out games before we buy them, and only buy the games that are worth our limited funds. 80-90% of current NDS games are crap that is being churned out to keep the money rolling in for the respective companies, if I was to buy one of those (figuratively speaking, I don't have an NDS because there aren't enough decent games to make it worth my money) my money would be wasted, and I would be more poor without getting much enjoyment out of it. Therefore I try a game, if I like it, I buy the full version.

Your statement, 'The sole purpose of Emulation and roms are preservation' is also highly inaccurate and doesn't do you any favours. The actual purpose of emulators/roms is development Do you think Nintendo burn a new chip every time they want to test a build of a new game? No. They use an emulator. It is much quicker, easier and cheaper.

kamuixtv keep the tone friendlier, I really don't want you going around telling my members they do things all day, I'm sure you can figure out which part I'm referring to.

Also your idea of a true dedicated gamer is just sad, your stuck in the ways of 1970s where games where only for those hardcore nerds programmed it themselves, today female 60 year-olds buy Guitar Hero because they think it looks fun and they're no less real gamers than those who collect manuals and hug their game boxes goodnight.

Okay, so you;re basically a Hippocrite, saying RomUlation shouldn't distribute NDS ROMS, but you download them, but people can be gamers, and dedicated, but sometimes, some people aren't rich enough to buy the games, I myself have about fifty NDS games that i keep boxes, Manuals and stuff like that, but the point being where you are attacking RomUlation by distributing ROMS is against my own beliefs.

Seriously, If you're against ROMs, why are you downloading it? I used to be a casual gamer, where buying games was about once a month, but now, I can try out games, I've bought about 27 games because of RomUlation, but that's what they deserved, I've bought a few games *Starfox Command* that don't deserve the money.

In conclusion, the real factor in it, Is the game worth the money?

And now that I live in the Philippines, i am unable to buy DS games, because I own the good ones they are selling, and they sell alot of "Crap" in stores like SM, and the SONY PS3 is barely affordable here, and I know no one who actually knew the Wii when I first came here.

Saying ROMULATION cannot be able to distribute games is like stripping someone of freedom

Calvin: I don't trust such it looks like it's better to get a new psp.
Loonylion: Are you sure about that emulator? How come no one has leak it as what they did with mother zero(nes)? The game was dump by a gaiii romhacker named Demi or Neo-Demiforce and it was never released as a cartridge. For demo purposes, you can always rent games right?

Seph: You do not need to worry Cahos I can visit their house and do some "burn-in", btw sad to hear yes
a lot of people are still like that they praise game developers like Gods.

Kamage: Congatulations! You are exempted because you are in the Philippines (no game rentals here). Here's a tip buy games in play-asia.com instead of SM or Data Blitz. Ok? Price difference 1000 pesos.

Ok you guys are aware of the swelling sales of the PSP, and the only "Messiah" they have is Final Fantasy 7, sure it help increase system sales but what about the game? It was dumped to ISO...good bye software sales.

Bottomline: Do not emulate or distribute roms of present consoles, it's like saying you want
to rest on your casket now.

yes I'm sure about the emulator, testing embedded code on production hardware is not cost effective, even using a device such as an R4 (and they probably do use such a device in the later stages) is not ideal as it prevents them using debuggers. On a PC based emulator, they see everything going on in the code, and catch things that shouldn't be happening. I would imagine Nintendo keep it highly protected, possibly even with hardware locking (dongles or something) so that it cannot be run on any other machine.

Renting games is not possible in all countries, or indeed all parts of a single country. To rent games I would have to travel over an hour to the city (two bus journeys each way) and then do the same again the next day to return it. You can only rent games for disc based current systems (i.e Xbox 360/PSP/PS3 and possibly wii). NDS games cannot be rented.

my local blockbuster rents out ds games but they have such small range and never get good ones.

why bother coming on to a forum just to write hypocritical rubbish that everyone will flame you for why????

you have a supercard so shut up telling us what your opinion on downloading Roms is.

the percentage of people who use dumps of games does not make much difference to the overall sales as the main buying market are not people who are even aware that you can download games

i buy my games whenever i can. seriously, i try... but nintendo charging £30 for a single ds game is quite a lot. considering, buying 3 ds games and you've essentially spent money you could have bought another DS with. think of it, if i had a high end pc, the game "crysis" wouldn't cost me

whenever i can i go for any game offer, but the majority of the time i just can't afford any decent ds games... not that this is a problem in the UK because of the apparent difficulty level in translating an american game into english -.-'

even after joining romulation i was still importing some games from playasia - i choose 5 i think i'll like and get them.

I am not into this war of arguement nor i want to besided with either. But i just want to point out the invalid and irresponsible of this above statement by equitypetey. I am sure what he said isn't right. for Statistic, I do not have any right now nor I am going to look for it right now (at work just looking up romulation forum and rest for a bit).

but let's compare to the music business shall we? I do believe they are in similar situation, if not, very close. I can't find a reason to make this two a different story. The following figure is based on a part of asia, i only will quote the approx. of a location, i am not going to put every single country's data nor do i have every single country's data. BUT there is no reason to let me think there will be much of a different (there is but not much since they are all in similar situation)

In Hong Kong, music sales were
Year: 1995 Total record sales: 16,100,000 Revenue: 17,000,000,000

Year: 2007(nowadays) Total record sales: 6,000,000

That's about 1/3 only, the reason is due to illegal copy CD(etc) and online illegal download.

i don't think 1/3 can be consider "does not make much difference to the overall sales" as you said.

also don't give me the crap about they still make a lot. i am sure they also spent alot of money on making the music, and promotion too. the money not only goes to the singer or the manager. also everyone working in the company, even the janitor get pays. You don't make money from the public by being a record company janitor right??? their pay also come from this sales. Since the only income will be from public. hence mostly from record sales.

By the way, i heard about this exact saying when CD sales got affected by piracy from people who download mp3 and buy illegal copy of CD. So i guess the situation don't change, even the excuse. hahaha

Quote: the percentage of people who use dumps of games does not make much difference to the overall sales as the main buying market are not people who are even aware that you can download games

What da **** is this???? i don't buy it dude. i am sure most (close to 100%) of people heard of piracy if not all. is all over the news (world news). how couldn't they be? since is a big thing of the century?? hahaha

Let say IF (IF) the statement above is right. I AM 100% ASSUME FROM what you said The reason this become the market is because of piracy. if piracy doesn't exist, the market will not be like this.

So the cause at the end is piracy.

PS: btw, i think the Hong Kong music business is CRAP nowadays compared to back then. i guess not much business opportunity and they are afraid to invest much anymore. even the highly talented may not want to enter the business nowadays. Oh well. End result, we get more crappy stuff.

first i'd like to point out that you can't compare anything to the music maket. copying cd's is easy anyone with a pc can do it and yes you can say the same for games but then there is the point the you need to chip or mod and most people even if they want to can't be bothered getting it done or learning how to do it.
i have met about 100 people with a ds and i am the only one with a flash cart so there is already 100 to 1 ratio and the world is a bigger place then the small place i live
where have you been people now download music legaly and nearly all sales are done this way which is why people are now releasing online only albums and radio stations chats are now done on download sale not shop sales. so quoting record sales does not work.

I used the word "Situation" <- if you understand what this mean. it is just reflecting upon similarly. So the figures i quote from music will not be the figure for game. BUT they are in very similar situation. So i don't doubt their sales go down to 1/2 if not 1/3.

Also record sales is just a term used and still use nowadays to represent the sales. is not ilterally mean the actual CD. basically mean the sales of the music. Beside, CD is not exactly record isn't it? record is more of a term when referring to the big vinyl Black plastic that need a needle to play in the 70-80s. but they still use the word record for CD. is just an industry terms.

since i quote from hong kong industry, you probably know i am related to it.

There is a chinese saying "DON'T TRY TO PICK OUT BONES FROM EGGS"

from overall what i said, i only want to give a basic understanding of what's happening. the "SITUATION".

By the way, not only music, but also movies. oh yeah, you know that some CD and movie DVD/CD/eventape. also have protection right? some need modification to hardware, some need modification to the software before recording. it is a tougher job back then, but now is as easy as counting 1 2 3 for backing up These media even if they have protection. So the technology of copying is improving.

Oh yeah by the way, how much is modding your playstation 1? back then? i remember playing about 80-120 range at my local chinese mall. compared to nintendo original system, the backup machine is well over 100$Canadian

but a wii mod is about $50 at my mall nowadays. and i got my R4 for $70. I can see price is going down. meaning things is getting easier and more demand so price go down. think economy - demand supply cost curve. Even wiikey can have online download software update once you purchase the mod chip..

not to mention, if you purchase your PS3 or Wii at your local retail chinese game store, you can get it already mod'ed (not much trouble at all). only when you get it from bestbuy, walmart, you don't get it already mod.

It isn't that hard to get it mod. Is getting much much easier. and i am sure it will be in the future.

Just look at how fast Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle Ring of Fate got hacked so quickly??? within a week of release.

    UGH!!

Okay I'll take the blame, I was the one who invited kamuixtv to RomUlation 'cause I thought he'd appreciate it here 'cause most Filipino gaming forums treat emulation gamers as Pirates or miscriants, that asshole is infact an emulation gamer but he keeps not admitting it, plus he only buys original titles to flaunt them around as if he's better than everyone!

He says he wants to buy a PS3 & Wii, A 22" HD TV & 7.1 Surround sound system & for what?

Just to let people know he has them!!

    Big deal!!!!!
    :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

Again I take full responsibility for having invited this insensitive jerk on the site!!!

Oh & sorry for the pro piracy thing

    shame on you.
threads like this always make big arguments because everyone pull out statments that are stupid and wrong and hypocritical and i don't like them cause it destroys our lovely comunity

oh yeah and the persentage may be getting bigger in asia but not that big in europe as asia does not have the same copywrite laws. example you can buy anything to do with potentialy illeagal use like a flash cart here in shops. you can in asia

Sorry, i live in Canada. I born in Hong Kong. So i am chinese. As regards to piracy, Western country come slower. but i can see they are gaining speed following asia. Asia is just faster in "piracy attack syndrome" first because most R4 etc is made by china.

I quote Hong Kong is not only because i am related to it. BECAUSE it is also a good insight. Hong Kong is one of the leader in import and export especially connecting asia and western in product etc. Because they are easily access, with less law and less tax.
So piracy really HIT HARD to Hong Kong, usually FIRST. So Hong Kong will be a reflection of what will happen next to the other country that will follow.

By the way, chinese is everywhere in the world. Canada and US have chinese mall that carry mod and r4 in store. i found a few when i visit London UK. so i guess europe also, at least part of europe.

and not to mention, how easily access online purchase you can get this from. also cheaper to get it online too. a worldwide business.

I am a terrible person. i admit. I believe I have to admit without making excuse. because this is probably the only way to see the light. at least a way for me to build up the urge to stop doing the thing i think is wrong.

I think is also apply to seph's mission on this website. (that is if what he said about demo'ing game isn't just a way to try to get away from law - that is if that really work). This is all honest system here. u can download the rom and play until finish without purchasing a game. But what can keep this ideal work? one way i can think of is keep realizing and not making excuse. So you feel wrong about it.

I still can't do it right myself, so i admit i am terrible. But to some game, i downloaded and play. i really did go out and buy a copy. such as phenoix wight ace attorney's series and apollo justice. Also the Final fantasy series for DS. They are all here still wrapped since i don't bother start from scratch, i already started from the rom with a save. (these two series i really love, want to make sure the company have enough budget to keep up the quality)

but i can't still be perfect, some game that i rate it 70/100 in quality, i didn't go buy it. i admit. But i think if i don't admit it, and keep making excuse. I'll continue to be a 100% download rom gamer without purchasing anything.

By the way. regarding music CD and DVD. I keep doing what i said above, realizing it. nowadays, i finally completely stopped downloading songs and movie. I buy all of them from store. for the last 5 years (about), i didn't download a single song and movie. Especially for movie, i got into a habit of going to the cinema instead. i watch about 2 movies a week at the cinema and purchase the one i like for keepsake.

I think i can end up the same with game if i do this.

PS: i like store such as itune store, i can preview the song for 15-30 seconds before purchase. hahaha. i think is great.
