Some drugs should be legal and some should not. Like drugs which actually harm people its not good why should people take drugs in the first place for depression? thats soo sad seriously wake up and smell the fresh air! Though the government should be scared of the people not the people being scared of the government when involing drugs! Drugs like herione should be banned and only those who need it believe me some people do who are extremely sick should take it cos it reduced the pain in the body.

Yes, I have. And I realize that synthetic drugs like alcohol makes people aggressive, irrational, and angry. Marijuana and Psilocybin Mushrooms, on the other hand make people more receptacle to happy, loving, and nostalgic trains of thought, emotion, and expression. Of course I have thought about the violence drugs have caused; I've done so because I'm an independent thinker. The government tells you to think for yourself and then tries to sway you away from drugs with lies and false accusations. But anyone who really thinks for themselves and doesn't just believe what they're being told by their authorities will realize the drastic difference between what the government lectures and what the reality of the harmfulness and violence of many drugs really is.

tl;dr: You're at a concert and some prick's punching everyone around him. Is he drunk or high? Mmyep.

DMT, the same stuff that our brain injects ourselves with to dream, is illegal, technically we are all using drugs illegally, unless you get drunk to the point you cant dream, then you're beating the system!

Interesting point, although no drugs work on the human body or mind if we did not have receptors in the brain to allow them to cause change. DMT is a good example but not special. Everytime you feel tired after exercise your brain produces a heroin like chemical. There are no known drugs legal or illegal that are not based on internal brain chemistry or internal body chemistry.

aspirin should only be use by adults because if its given to a child it could cause overdose while sleeping pills are prescripted drugs because its known to cause death when you sleep(never wakes up again).

drugs should just be controlled regardless if its legal or not.

    Should "drugs" be legal...yes.

But first...what are "drugs"? We refer to illegal substances as drugs because we are ill-educated about them. The prohibitionist movement has done for controlled substances what abstinence only education has done for teen sex. In my country (USA) especially, we often trade extremes (just look at our politics every 4 years) instead of exercising self control, mediation, and education about which things do what and how such substance can be utilized properly. Instead we see the negatives, do the opposite, and end up with more negatives than what we had before.

    Negatives of "drug" prohibition:

Increased competition that: 1. Creates the incentive for sellers to DECREASE their price and INCREASE their potency to make an attractive product 2. Increases the rate of gang violence at the cost of young men's lives and the lives of law enforcement officers 3. Create HUGE revenues for organized crime (10 to 50 billion dollars/year in a 1986 estimate)

Increased government spending: We all know billions are spent by law enforcement each year, however, the government loses about 1 billion dollars a year on taxable dollars from marijuana sales ALONE because it is illegal (thus not taxable). Over half of all inmates in US prisons/jails are there for drug related crime (the cost to house ONE inmate in FLORIDA is about $20,000/year (http://www.dc.state.fl.us/pub/statsbrief/cost.html) Many of those same inmates are there for possession and or selling without violent incident. (btw: i think there are about 2.4 million inmates in the USA)

    We do it anyway: http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/publications/factsht/druguse/

We must first do away with this terrible umbrella of a word that automatically stigmatizes hundreds of substances with VERY varied effects. Every medicine we consume is a "drug" and many "drugs" have medicinal properties. One of the main factors of this prohibitionist movement is the fact that many pharmaceuticals would lose money on many of their products if marijuana was legalized alone (no need for, aspirin, sleeping pills, some anxiety medications, pills for nausea, ect.) The prohibitionist movement is largely political.

    But drugs are harmful!:

    1. By that logic many things should be illegal, motor vehicles, many legal "drugs" that can be overdosed on, firearms, knives, and anything any idiot can misuse.

    2. It is not your (the prohibitionists) role to determine what is good for ones body, mind and spirit, or what an individual chooses to do with ones health. By doing so you infringe on the civil liberties of others to CHOOSE what to put into their bodies.

Taking drugs may be up to the individual, however, when it leads to violence it becomes a public issue!

    1. "According to Justice Department statistics, 54% of all jail inmates convicted of violent crimes in 1983 reported having used alcohol just prior to committing their of offense." -Nadelmann, Ethan, "Part 1. Drug Prohibition in the United States: Costs, Consequences, and Alternatives." Science. September 1989: pp. 939-947 (This does not meant that the other 46% we're because of illicit "drug" use.)

    2. Yes, the public should be allowed to be safe from those that go out of control, but that is why we have laws regarding violence. Education and awareness is the key to preventing incidences. Not the domination of the discussion by the nay saying prohibitionist movement.

    Drugs are bad, mmmmmkay. :p

@Moonanite, very good post. I think you have encapsulated all I have been trying to say in this discussion very well and presented it better than I have.

    i dont think they should.
i could understand weed being legal though , of course with laws like 18+ . especially since its mostly proven it does alot less damage than alcohol. it would become a great marketting product if it was legalised and manufactured safely

There were talks about legalizing weed here in California to help allieviate the budget deficit, but I think that idea was shot down by Governor Schwarzenegger.

They should all be legal its the responsibility of the user they are only dangerous if they are taken to much and the stupid people who get addicted or overdose its there own fault so it shouldnt be illegal for the people who know how to use them responsibly and there are worse things on the market like weapons and ciggarettes etc

  14. I think certain drugs should be passed such as the mary jane and hash. But coke is very dangerous. As you all know by now, it's one heck of a stimulator and many criminals use the substance right before they commit their crimes. The substance can cause lots of damage not only physically, but mentally as well.

look people ODing is a very bad thing it dont affect the person but everyone.......... and i say drugs should be illegal..... because if it wasnt this world would've been in more havoc than it is right now, addicts all over, more crimes, need for money to get drugs.... think people.......

As I have said before, those that want to get drugs can already get all the drugs they want, regardless of the law(please read my previous posts where I give strong evidence of a reduction of both crime and drug use after decriminalisation or legalisation). If people do not have to break the law in order to maintain a nasty habit, then we all win, less crime, less gangs dealing drugs, less gangsters, and a situation where people who need to get help due to an addiction do not have the current problem where by admitting to being an addict equals admitting to being a criminal. ...think dhanash....

only idiots OD, so if your an idiot and take to much or take shit then its your own fault not the drugs

as i have said many times as well, its not the drugs that cause problems its the numnuts that take it.
