are you sure you arent mistaking it with bad parenting?

If thier are old enough to own thier own gun, they are mature enough to know about action and consequences... unless they have mental retardation. but then 1/4 of american is suffering from mental retardation.

Gun ownership should not be something left to chance. On the off-chance that the person has been spoilt/whatever by their parents and does not have the necessary maturity to own a gun, they should be submitted to an education before gaining the right to owning one. You might as well say we should give nuclear weapons to the Middle East as long as we teach them how to use them. Using them isn't the problem it's the responsibility that is needed to be taught.

IF 5-13 years old kid start to legally own a gun (are in license to have one), then you get to talk with maturity and responsibility.

So far i know, most kid within range cant legally own one. so if they some how get a gun most like due to bad parenting, well come to think of it, maybe you are right, those dumb parent need to learn about maturity and responsibility.

Actually, age is not a factor on maturity and responsibility. A 40 year old could be too irresponsible to own a gun.

so far in only meet one 40 year (or it is 70) old immature, and he is a millionaire who build a talking ferrari for prank.

i agree that age isnt a definite for maturity and responsibility, but its a contributing factor and we arent talking about teenager, we are talking about adult. We arent talking about those immature alcoholic adult who drink and drive while killing themself with tar (no matter how you educate them, they will never growth up) and we arent talking about some 70+ senior who cant remember who they are (they arent immature, their brain just dying).

We are talking about health adult who know how the basic action and consequences works.

But in the case of guns you need to weed out the "unhealthy" adults. You can't just hope that the immature or mentally unbalanced adults don't buy guns and shoot people, you have to try to ensure everyone's safety by testing the user's use of a gun.

LOL this is so goddamn amusing.
Maturity is not based on age, like gaynor said. I know PLENTY of 25-30 year olds that have the maturity of an 11 year old.

Now, to own a gun, you should not only be well-trained to handle the gun, but also have the maturity of owning one. Imagine knowing how to drive a car, but not knowing a single rule as how to drive it...

Huh. There's a lot of talk about how people need to know how to aim correctly and turn the safety off, but not nearly enough talk on "POTENTIAL GUN OWNERS SHOULD BE MENTALLY STABLE TOO DURR HURR." (Haha. I wonder if that means I'll never be able to obtain one legally.) Would the administration of psychological tests on all potential gun owners feasible?

I reckon the person wanting a gun should have to pay for a gun handling course that included a full police check and medical check. Anyone with any criminal record or mental problems would just be refused. The rest would get the training needed.
or just bring back national service, teach kids a bit of discipline whilst were at it

No. It would cost a lot of money for starters, people could still obtain illegal firearms and the NRA lobby would press VERY strongly against it, since it cuts into their business. A good idea, though? Hell fucking yes.

I spent ages practicing with air pistols before I went up to the 9mm and the 22 cal. Gun training SHOULD be mandatory for anyone intending to own a gun.

and perhaps a competency test before licenses are issued, with compulsory retests periodically. Not just on the handling and use of the weapon, but also on the situations where it is and isnt appropriate to produce one.

Many people, manybe most of it, can't handle guns in dangerous situations, these are people that in a robery get scared and can't aim so good, xcan even hit inocent people.
In my country, there wa a guy that has a drilling machine, he was using it in a wall of a apartment, the police was near, the cop thought that he was handling a machinegun, the cop mothafucka shoot him in sight, people like that we have a slang for 'em, we call 'em "hot finger".
See? In most cases not even cops have sanity/mind capable to handle guns.

its instinct, its what i was trying to say on another thread that got turned all racist. all i was trying to say is when your put in a situation you will react differently to what is "morally" right. everyone wants to live and give them a gun and they will use it.

Gun control is completely unnecessary, useless, and completely evil. The topic creator argued that guns are unnecessary in his opening post, but that is 100% incorrect. The entire purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to protect ourselves from the government taking away our rights, and we still have plenty of that to fear, with our corrupt and evil politicians like Bush and Obama (Bush signed the PATRIOT Act in, and Obama recently renewed it).

So long as we are armed they at least have something to fear. Look at the Liberals. They are always advocating for more government control (which is what decreases freedom), and they are ****ing terrified of our guns. Look at all of the BS laws that they try to get through in order to get rid of them. Once the 2nd Amendment is gone, the rest will follow very quickly.

    Yeah.

Though I have never seen a gang fight or anything, there was a group of skin-heads a town over from where I live. They had a whole stock of weapons and there was a big gun-fight between them and the law-enforcement.
